BANKERS' INTEREST IN
THE FARM.
The American Bankers' associa
tioa, which bold a meeting recent
ly in New York, went ou record in
stroog resolutions, favoriun agri.
cultural education. Our present
system of teaching the so.called
fine arts at the expense of agrioul
ture was condemned and legisla
tion urged to teach practical farm
ing, not only to pupils, but to
farmers in rural districts who have
never had advantages of agricul
tural instruction. More support
is urged for extension teaching.
This course of the bankers comes
as a result of study and business
jodgement. They realize, as oth
er business men should, that our
wealth must come from the soil,
that business prosperity is depeu
dest upon the yield of our farms,
that the independence of this na
tion will be proportional to the in.
telligence of its producers. Yet
there are organizations composed
of business men who do not rea.
lize that whatever benefits the
farmer benefits business add heonce
society in general, but some of
them would advance their own in.
terest at the expense of society.
The bankers' criticism of the
public schools is timely, just and
in keeping with their business
judgment. While some progress
is being made in public education,
more is urgently needed. The
public schools are too often made
to accommolate the college or the
university and not to prepare the
pupil as an independent producer.
Since the public schools are the
colleges in which 95 per cent of
the boys and girls of this country
are educated-if we may be per
mitted to call such a course edu
cation- these schools should give
instruction in agriculture and
home economics. The rural schools
should teach some of the essen
tials uf industrial lifes-agronomy,
animal husbandry, hortioultare,
dairying, tlc,ri( ulture and house
hold eco, omy. even at the expense
of a course needed for college en
trance. This will be necessary if
our children are to meet the de
mands of feeding our increased
population from the impoverished
farms left in their hands. - Texas

Deafness Cannot Be Cured
by local applications. as they cannot
reach the diseased portion of the ear.
There I+e ouly one way to cure deafnesw.
and that is by constitutional remedies.
Deafness is caused by an inflamed eondli
tion of the mucous lining of the oesta
chian Tube. When this tube is inflam
ed you have a rumbling sound or im
perfesct hearinug, and when i ts entirely
closed, Deafnoes is the result, and unless
the Inflammation can be taken out and
this tube restored to its normal condi
tion, hearing will be destroyed forever;
nine cases out of ten are caused by Ca
tarrh. which is nothing but an inflamed
condition of the mucous surfaces.
We will give One Hundred Dollars for
any case of iDeafuees (caused by catarrh)
that cannot be cured by Hall's Catarrh
