End of Chapter One.
Senator Henri L. Ousydau, who
was defeated by Senator elect R..
F. Broussard in the race for Con
gross in the Third District, made
the following statement yesterday:
"It goes without saying that I
shall support Congressman and
Senator elect Broussard as the con.
gressional nominee of the Demo
cratic party in November.
"Someone has said, "This defeat
is the beginning of victory two1
years hence. At least, I feel t hat
way. I have just had pitted against 4
me a United States Senator elect
and twelve would be candidates
for Congress. The odds were too
great, but in 1914 there will be no
such eventuality possible.
"1 wish to thank all those who
voted for me, and to tell them now,
as well as all the people of the
Third Congressional District, that
they will have an opportunity in
two years of saying whether they
wish me to succeed Broussard or
prefer someone else. In the mean
time, we shall rest from congres
sional politics in the Third Dis
trict for two years. Let us all get
together to assist Broussard and
the other Louisiana Senators and
Representatives in defending on
gar, rice and the other industries
of the State, that they may be de
veloped to their fullest extent. I
am now going back to Gueydan to
assist in the great awakening which
is taking place in South Louisiana.
