-A large number of people en
joyed the day at Catahoula lake
last Sunday. If this beautiful
place was improved and Gravel
Roads built it would be a better
and much more popular and at
tractive place than Shell Beach.
It is an ideal place for fishing,
boating and pic nia. Fish and
crabs are plentiful.
The fashionable summer resorts I
are boosting their respective places
with the announcement that wo
men are wearing shorter bathing
suits than ever before. Due no
doubt to the high price of clothing I
during the war.-Ex.
-According to reports made by
the tailors, the styles for men's
clothing next year will have no
pockets. Well, except for packing
cigarettes and cigars few of us I
have any use for pockets. But, I
all jokes aside, "wont it be cute"
in the pocketlees trousers? - Ex.
-We had several good heavy
showers this week that did much
good to the crops. Much more is

Wednesday night, at the Bonin
Hall, one of the pretty dances of
the season was given by our young
people, it was largely attended,
many young people from adjoining
towns being present, and all who
attended had a most pleasant time.
--A young boy 15 years of age,
named Willie Seibert, Jr., coming
from New Orleans, was arrested
here, this week. The boy says he
left the home of his father on ac
count of ill-treatment and being
told by the father to get out and
go to work. He says he has two
small sisters and one young broth
er who are taken care of by other
people at Westwego, the father
living on Magazine street, New
Orleans. The authorities here
held the boy and tried to get the
father, but without succcess, fail
ing to reach the father the New
Orleans police were notified. but
they could not locate the father
and requested that the boy be held
until notified further from them.
The boy speaks French and Eng

like a good, docile child.
Fall Webiorm is
Caasimg Inch Damage.
le A serious outbreak of the fall 9
-' webwqrm has occured in portions I
. of southern Louisiana, the cater- I
g pillars becoming full grown about I
e July 1st. Injury is especially se
y vere on willow, gum, pear, persim
e mon, mulberry and peach trees. I
After devouring the foliage, of I
e which they are especially fond, the I
caterpillars fed upon a great varie.
ty of plants, including some field
k and garden crops.
k It is possible that the next gen- ý
y eration of caterpillars which will -
appear shortly will also be a ,very
destructive one in Louisiana.
"Farmers should for the appear
r ance of the small, young caterpil.
lare, which form over the foliage
upon which they feed," says T. H.
Jones, entomological assistant, U. (
S. Department of Agriculture. 1
"Spraying the cultivated trees, 4
shrubs, vines, and other plants up
on which they appear, with an ar
senical poison will kill the cater-.
pillars and prevent further damage.
For this purpose arsenate of cad ul
at the rate of three pounds of the i
t powdered form or six pounds of 1
the paste form to fifty gallons of
water is recommended. Spraying -
should be done when the worms
are small-or soon as possible after
they have issued from the eggs
in order that as little vegetation as
possible be destroyed."-L. S. U. s
