The plant had been leased for a term of years to Messrs. C(rockett and Weil of Alexandria. Just how it originated we have not been able - to learn. It seems that night at about nine o'clock the mill shut down to make repairs and one hour afterwards the fire broke out and the mill was destroyed. All of the syrup which had been stored in' adjoining warehouse was saved from devastation due to the pre sence at the mill of most of the · employees. It had a capacity per day of 400 tons and was said to be one of the best syrup plants in Louisiana. The loss will be keen. ly felt by our sister community * for the reason that aside from its convenience as a market for small cane growers, it employed from thirty to forty men, women and ? young children who were given steady employmeng during grind ing season. Whether it will be rebuilt we are not in position to state. - New Iberia Enterprise * TOWN COUNCIL.
