FAIR SEX FASHIONS.
Dancing gowns will lie nearly, without
eaception, all empire style this season.
Slashed sleeves are again in favoC.
and are as hanlldsomle as velvet and
brocade can be.
Feather n:ches now take the place o!
the stiff linen and lace ones, and are ex
tremely pretty and becoming.
Black hie.,;ery will probably never go
cut of fashion, but for evening wear and
Ior home wear, too, colored hose will be
affected this year by many people.
Silk skirts have become so much the
fashion and have taken hold on the
p.epuhur fancy that white ones are rarely
seen and may he said to be out of date.
Velvet jackrts to go with different
gowwn are now\ the fashion, and when
Tined with satin of a gay tint and em
roiderted in braid or gold thread are
exceedingly stylish.
The pretty rec-:mier effect-that of a
loose fold of tulle from the shoulders
a-:ros. the bust, terminating in a bench
,.f flowers in the middle of the corsage
will be much worn for evening gowns.

A band of falbricators of false money
were arrested itt Verona the other day.
In connection with them, or surmised to
be, is a certain Basilio Giovanardi, of
whomn tihe Italian papers recount extraor
dinitry stories. He is thirty-three years
of age, uand is very well known in the
provinces near Verona, and has been
considered by the people there as a sort
of Count of Monte Cristo. His life, in
fact, seems to have been a mystery.
Nine years ago he was a poor work
man in .a factory near Vaerona. One
day, l~o.wever, he told his employera that
he would leave them, as he also was
going to do the silgnore (the gentlemAn).
In fact he went away, and after a time
was sen nla Verona well dressed, spend
ing money very freely and throwing
away 1.00) franc notes at a time on the
mot silly 4nsm_sents. Everypnejbq
