THE TAILOR'S COURTSHIP.
O, Sophy dear; you charming maid,
You wond'rous little spright,
You are the needle of my thoughts,
The thread of my delight.
To gaze upon thy beauteous face,
To kiss thee, what a pleasure;
To hear thee call me thine, would he,
Ajoy without a measure.
O, Sophy duck, you sure can love,
Your little Tommy Fun;
If only its athimble full,
Tis better thus than none.
Believe me dear, the truth I tell.
No soap-stone amn I using,
To wax your guileless heart to mine,
O, no! suit your own choosing.
My shear ne'er cut a garment flue,
My scissors ne'er did triml
My goose ne'er smoothed a linnen pure,
As thee--you dariing prim.
I've basted all the town about,
The country I have scoured;
To mend my health you've rent in twain
By glances on 0me showered.
Tis all in va:n, I've tried my best.
To button up my a'fectious,
And cabbaging can't save me now,
If you still raise objections.
Then be my own, my Sophy dear,
Don't cause mty heart .;uch itching.
For it is fit that we should join :
And together go on stiiching.
.Jr`'ITER.
Sally, you seem to ,, gnorant in
geography. I will examine you in
grammar. Take the se'. encee:
"Marriage is a civil ,ontract.
Parse marriage."
"Marriage is a noun. because it is a
name. And though Shakspeare asks
what's a name, and says a rose by
any other name would smell as sweet,'
yet marriage being a noun, and there
fore a name shows that the rule estab
lished by the board of Avon has ex
ceptions. For marriage cert;i..,. is
of great importance, and be iig a
noun, and therefore a name, crgo,
there is soinethings in a namn.'
"Good. Well, what is the ca:c of
marriage?"
"Don't know, si'."
"'Decline it, and see."
"Don't feel at liberty to decline
marriage. I had rather co iug,,ate."

e//lows in Peach Trees.--1 think
the cause is want of iron in the soil;
but whatever the theoretical enuse

Ginger Beer.-Put two gallons of
cold water into a pot upon the fire;
add to it two oz. of good ginger brui
sed, and two pounds of brown or
white sugar. Let all this come to the
boil, and continue boiling for about
half an hour. Then skim the liquor
and pour it into a jar or tub, along
with one sliced lemon and half an
ounce of' cream of tartar. W'he'n
nearly cohld, put in a teacupful of
yeast, to cause the liquor to work.
The beer is now made; and after it
has worked for two days, strain it,
and.l,ottle it f~or us,. Tic down the
corks firmly.
