The committee appointed by, tho signers
to call a public meeting about tho alleged
frauds, say that tho nbsenco of so many
business men and leading citireni from tho
city necessitated delay, but they promise
to givo tho publlo not'ico as soon as their
preparations are sufficiently matured.

Advices received from London state
that Ulamarck has commenced a vigorous
campaign against papacy, and as a first
blow, declared in parliament and his Offi
cial Gazette that ho regards tho Ultramon
tano church as hostilo to the state ; thut ho
has broken olT all relations with it not
puroly political, and has dinolved the
Catholic department of tho ministry. It
is said that ho is intriguing for tho estab
lishment of an orthoraoz Catholic party,
which is the name applied to tho oppo
nents of tho infallibilty of the pope, and
actually snpporting Dr. Dollinger, of Mu
nich, where the doctor, though excommu
nicated, has just been elected, by a voto of
51 to C, rector of tho university. It has
been announced by tho Ultrambnlano or
gnus that the state will treat as Catholics
thoso perjons who uro inhibiting tho re
jection of the infallibility dogma.

with advices from Washington with tho
statement that no official dispatches had

THE COMPTKOLI.EU OF CURRENCY
has decided that tho national banks do
signatcd as depositories for tho now loan
aro not obliged to noiu a rcsorvo 01 tunus
paid to tho bank upon subscriptions, and
that tho loans aro doposited to tho credit
of tho United States government.
This ruling is approved by Iloutwoll, but
does not apply to any other govornmcnt
deposits. On tho 16th of .last March tho
lato Commissioner Plcasanton decided that
any writing, whothor culled receipts or
otliorwise, which contains contracts to con
tinue in forcoany policy of iniuranco which
stamp has not expired ia exempt from
stamp duty. Commissioner Douglas, on tho
10th inat., in a lettor to Collector Amos, of
Providence, Rbodolslaud, on this docision,
holds that any written contract mado In
tho form of a receipt or othorwiso which
renews or continues ft policy, rcquiros tho
same stamp as tho original policy, whotbor
tho renewal of the receipt is given beforo
or after tho oxplration of tho policy.

inspector states it as his opinion the
causo is In doubt whether It was caued by

tendent thinks the accumulation of tho
firedamp had bcon starting at soma unap

and tlio fall of coal forced tho gas upon
tho naked lamp, causing tho explosion,

coal or rock, which disarranged tho pro
