Sinck tho Liberal meeting on "Wednes

The Hullkti.v building was finely
illuminated Wednesday night on tbu oc
casion of tho Liberal mooting, Ono hun
dred anil sixty-two lights blazed a wel
come to tho Liberal speakers nnd the
thousands of Liberal voters gathered to
hear Kwrner and Morrison on tho livo is

The change in tho weuthur night boloro
l6t nnd yestordny was no los remarka
ble than welcome. From 90 to 08 in tho
slmdo to 80 was a fall ol tho thermometer
grateful in tho extreme. Tho wind about

chilliness j it is fair to prcHUtno tho
"heated term" is about ovor with us, for
which tho Lord make us duly thankful.
TllEEckort was chartered by tho Lib

number of citizens uccompanlod thu gen

lino speeches made) by Koernor nnd Mor
rison. And now comes Woolen, tho health
officer, Hnd soys ho did nover give infor

"Wo were informed, on what wo had no
right to doubt was rcliablo authority, that
Mr. Wooten had mado this statement;
but wo nccopt Mr. Woolen', dwilal as
conclusive of tho matter, and with great
pleasure withdraw our remarks in dispar

The Commerce 'Dispatch of thu 21th
inst. says : "Judge Oreer Informs us that
a largo forco of hands aro ongaged on tho
line of tho Cairo and Fulton railroad, bo-
uuon uuurleston and Slkeston, nnd Sikes
ton and Little river. The hands nro
bedged in by n deep forest on each side ;
ono dense enough to oxclude anything
like a breeze. We know enough of tholr
surroundings to sympathize with them
during tho present terriblo heat. Thu
grading on that portion of tho road on
which they are now employed was nearly
completed In IBM. The work remaining
to be done Is consequently light, and an
ordinary forco of hands moves rapidly
over tho line."
The accommodation for the speakers
and audience at the Liberal meeting on
Wednesday night WM complete. Tho
largo platform Imi'.t against thu Eleventh
street school house Is commodious und at n
good bight abovo the ground,
Tho seats though mude In Imite
are vary comfortable, and are nu
morons enough to nccomtnodnto
largo crowd. The gas Jets placed against
tho school houso nnd nt convenient dlstnn
cos on tho grounds, furnish light' enough to
afford a good viow of both speakers nnd
audience. Tho completeness of the Ar
rangements contributed In no small do
grec to tho comfort of nil present, nnd to
this fnct is duo lnrgely tho great success
of tho meeting.
The Llboral meeting nt Mound City
yesterday was largo nnd enthusiastic. Of
course it was neither ns largo nor ns spir
ited as tho Cairo mooting of Wodncsdny
night; but, considering it was n day moot
ing when Mound City' orte is night
meetings, It was nil that could havo been
reasonably expected. It was held in Ca
sey's grove, where h stand and scats
had been provided for tho occasion. Mr.
L. O. Harris was called to tho
chair, and introduced Gov. Koernor, who
spoko for about on hour. His speech had
n lino ctlect. It was not n repetition of his
Cairo spoecb, but a "bran now" one, full
of new matter handled in ndltloront man
ner. During his remarks tho Governor
was frequently applauded. After Koer
norcamo Morrison with ono of his rattlers.
Tho exordium was u lino piece of oratory,
eloquent, elegant and Impressive,
and it secured to tho Colonel tho rapt at
tention of his audience.
At a meeting of tho tunchers In attend
