uary, 18G3, Colonel Harrow resigned, ar.d

In politics General Harrow was a Whig,
then a Republican, and was traveling to

when the accident occurred which
caused his death.

bending tho tongue, of tho reed, a slight
variution in tho stylo of bend muking quite
a perceptible difference in the quality of
louo produced, as well ns in tho speaking
capacity of the reed.
So difficult and peculiar in this depart
ment of work as to render it necessary for
a person to havo u natural gift or tact in
handling tho delicate tools used, and even
then it sometimes requires years nf prac
tice to enahlo one to become prolicient in

tho application of what is called tho now
and improved bend in tho reed, and
among thorn tho houso of Simmons &
Clough Organ Co., of Detroit, Mich., havo
made their Instruments deservedly popu
lar, and aro taking tho lead in way of tho
more uesirabio improvements, caving se
cured tho valuable "Scribner Patent,"
an application of tubes to reeds, which
materially incrcaso tho volume of tone.

Tbo musical editor ot tho Superior
(Wis.) 'Times' makes mention of them as
follows: "We are impressed with all we
read and know of tho 'Simmons & Clough
Organ.' Contrary to the practice of
many other establishments, this firm have
first mado ft roputatlon for their noblo in
struments, and then advertised thorn. It
is a mystory to us outsiders what they are
advertising for, as the demand for these
Organs now exceeds the sunnlv. The
great demand for them, in fact, has com
pel icu ins company to put up a new man
