DISTRESSING STATE OF IIEH MIND-HOW THE UNAHPPY EMPRESS PASSES HER WH.ARY DAYS. Correspondence of the London Echo. The recent itorlci about tbe Empreu Charlotto of Mexico being at tbo point of death were 10 far from being truo that it now turn out that thit unhappy lady it in possesion of perfect bodily health. Her mental malady, however, it worm than ever. She Hill remains at tho Chateau of Turvuren. Her madness bat degen erated into a kind of childishness, but it unaccompanied by any violence, luch as in generally tbe caie with femalo lunatics. Tho empreu' mind ia overcast, disdainful, and sometimes imper ious, but quiet and gentle, and as nearly all her caprices are satisfied, she has no reason to feel tormented. She lives very retired and almost alone in two rooms of tho chateau, where she takes upon herself the care of ber little houso-keeping. Tho only person sho will converse with and to whom she appears attached, and who has an Influence over her is tho learned and clever Dr. U , who it now charged exclusively with her treatment. Hho receives bim every morning for balf an bour, and is calm after each of theso interviews. Tho nlne-and-twenty other persons of all ranks who formed her household are far from enjoy ing such a favor. Tbe empress accepts their attentions, but with repugnance, and often rejects them. Sho dines always alone and -standing. She fetches ber own plates frera tho adjoining roomj she ar ranges ber own dishes, and clenrs the table. The empress is always cbllly, and insists on having a blazing fire. She lights and attends to it her olf. She is alto fond of hav ing a number of candlot burning. In order to provent nn accident a guard with lock and key was placed before the fire; this precaution annoyed her greatly, and sho complained to all the servants, and wanted the key. Dr. H took the part of the cmpreis, and, having pre tended to tcnld tho servants, ordered tbe key to be given her. Since then she has kept it, and always talks of the great victory shs won over the doctor. Tbe greatest part of her time is occupied in sending telegraphic dispatches to Napoleon III, whom she believes still to boon the throne, and conversing with spirits, which she say haunt tho upper stores of tbecbaltau, whole language the boatts of knowinr, and whose advice she follows. Now and then tbe orders a rich tnllot to bo mae, which ibe places on chairs and dummies, and goes through tbe ceremony of a court reception. In her eyes tbeso drettes and bonnets represent ladles of France and Mexico. She flatters some, Insults others, and to pattct a part of her time. Sbe never wears any of tbete fine toilets, and always appears in ber dreMlng-gown. Not long ago she cut otT all her fine hair and put it on one of her dummies; nevertheless, sbe insitts on having her hair dresed every morn ing, and a domestic nas to go mrougn me ceremony. Sometimes she takes a walk, or runs about the park. No affection bas remained In ber heart, not even for ber brother. Sho will not see either the king or queen, and her family are obliged content iiiemseives who looking at er when sbe goes into me paric. inn fear of being poisoned has disappeared, and she eats anything with a good appe tite. All hope of cure has boen given up, nd the doctors say that her health is uch as prntiiiiei a long lifo. LAUGHTER LK.NDS A HEW CHARM To beauty, when it discWoi a pretty set it teeth.
