CAIRO DAILY" BULLETIN SATURDAY, OCTOBER" 28', 1872. "
The city council on Monday tbo 14th
Inst!, adopted the following resolution!
Itttolvtd That tho board of health bo,
and li horeby loilructed to employ not
exceeding thrco sultablo persons, whose,
duty it shall bo to visit all families or
persons resident in tho district or wards
severally assigned to thorn by tho board,
and vaccinato all ncrsons not vaccinated.
and all who may roqtilro to bo rovaccln-
aieu, taking down mo name, ago, color
and placo of residence of each person vac
cinated by them, and of all porsons who
aro not, and who may refuse to be vac
Tho porsons so employed shall act under
tho direction of tho board of health, and
shall uso none but the best vacclno virus
or matter procurable hore, the samo to be
furnished thorn by the board. They shall
thoroughly canvass such districts or wards
as may be assigned to thorn, and shall
mako a full report every week to the
board of health. Thoy shall also collect
from all porsons vaccinated who aro able
to pay therefor, tho sum of twonty-Qvo
cents, and shall nolo the samo in thoir re
ports to the board."
Tho three persons employed for tho pur
pose tot forth In tho abovo resolution aro
Drs. Evans, Parker and Sullvan. Dr.
Evans taking that part of tho city
below Sixth street, Br. Parker
that part botweon ttlxth and
Fourteenth street and Dr. Sullivan
that part above Fourteenth street.
Theso gentlemen will bo furnished with
tho best vaccino matter, and it is hoped
that all the citizens of Cairo will co-operate
with and assist them In their work so
that It may bo as thorough as possibl?.
Theso measures or arrangements have
been deemed necessary chiefly on account
of our connection by river and railroad
with other cities where the small-pox
seems to bo very prevalent, and the ap
proach of cold weather ronders it very
important that there be as littlo material
as possiblo for it to feed upon during tho
coming winter. The day ha pnstod when
argument were required in favor of vac
cination. Exporicnco, observation and
the investigations of scienco havo set the
matter at rest long ago. If wo will not
vaccinato out of considerations of safety
to ourselves, let us remornber that tho pub
lic have, if wo have not, an intorest in our
protection against this dreadful diioasc.
