Almost a Traoedy in Ballard

' Howard and hit brother, William, went
to the residence of Mr. W. J. Harklesa, a
highly respected cititon.woll and favorably
known in Cairo at well as in Ballard
county, Kentucky. Brot called Harkletsto
the gate and began an insulting conversn

after Harkleis bad several times asked
him to leave, resulted in a rencounter in
which Brou Howard subbed Harklcw
three or four time, inflicting terious
wounds which U is hoped will not prove
fatal. Wm. Howard, during the melee f
attempted to uio an ax, but Harkleis was
lucky enough to etcape. The Howards
were arretted and committed to jail in de
fault of bail.
