How long will our streets remain ovor-run
by trifling, ugg-sucking, sheep killing dogs ?
How much longer will our nights bomado

If Cairo over was cursed by it nuisance
that nuisance is the present feneration of
(logo. Miserable, lank, hobbling, three-lcg-
ed, sore-eved, 16p-cared, spike-tailed, slab-
sided, cowardly, mcoking, snapping, snarling,
child-biting dogs infest the streets, the side
walks, the commons, tho front porches mm
back vards throughout tho entire city. Ono
cannot walk a Mjuaro without encountering
from one to forty dogs, and if ho happen to
incur the disphiasurc of the most diminutive
poodlo in the city, in less than thirty seconds
lie is beet by all the curf, spaniels, hull-
dog-, hounds, nlc, in the whole neighbor
hood. It i actually uuafo for childroit unattend
ed by somu one nble to giro bnttlo to at lcost
a corporal's guard of dogs, to walk the streets.
Three children were bitten yesterday, whtlu
quietly p:isiug along the strcsts, on of them
quite sevorely, nnd tho othor two escaping
more rortuuntcly. -MaU dogs nr now roam
ing the country. In tho neighboring county
live were killed last week, in it single neigh
borhood. There uno tolling, thereiore, when
n child i bitten, whether tho virus of hydro- I
phobia has not been injected into his system
A single mad dog in Cairo could, und no
doubt would, communicate his disease to a
hundred of his species in a day.
W'o do not complain of the dog nuisance
because moro annoyed than any other citizon,
but becnuto there am well grounded fears
that it may lead to the most deplorable con
sequence. I'arents justly complum Mint
their little children are attacked and bitten
In the public highways, and what citizen has
pasted a week over his head In perfect exemp
tion in this particular?
Tho children recently bitten may suflVr
nothing worse than tho mere pain of tho
wounds inllieted; but should one of them die
from tho poison of the bite, the death of every
dog in Christendom could not compensate thu
Ion.
V repeat that the evil calls loudly for a
remedy. Dog-ownori might remedy it by
continin their aniniMls; Iftitsuch relief would
onlv temporary a- aftsjr the lapse of a fe
weeks the whole cntiine horde would be turn-
il Ioote nguln. Units omc cure for tho
cnri U provided, citixetn ohould carry h re
volver, and each reolving himself Inton dog
killer commence the slunghter. Upon this
or Mme xpiHlly ed'ectire procedure, depends
thelites of many children, and possibly, the
live of pcr.'Oti of maturer growth. Down
with the dugs, iay w, and r'tnove the threat
ened peril. , ,
