Tho shipments of strawberries havo
declined to less than two car loads a dav.
In tho first nino duys of June, 409,230 lbs
.wore shipped by fruit tralu.nnil 13,01(7 by
express; total, 423.17:) lba. To this add
377.712 lbs shinned before Juno 1st. and
the total 13 600,835 lbs, more than twice
the amount shipped In 1 8i7, and nearly
flvd times as much as last year.
In quarts, this year's shipments
amouut to about 533,022, or in bushels
nearly 17,000. Tho net returns to this
station must xomewhat exceed S50,000.
The experiment of shipping to Detroit
aud Buffalo without reloading was not n
success. Several of tho cars sent met
with Homo accident which made reload
ItiXT necessary; nr-wero so long on the
road that important connections were
missed or fruit received in bud order
But enough has been done to prove that
berries may be shipped through nud the
Chicago market thus relieved and better
price obtalucd.
