The alledged abuudauco of Jury cer
tificates, concerning which wo yesterday
invoked Inquiry, turns out an unfor
tunate exaggeration. Whllo it is truo
that a considerable-amount of this kind
of paper is presented for redemDtlon, or
in payment of taxes, It Is also at
the treasurer did not oancol tho muouut
received by him; but, finding It couvo
nlont chango ho paid It out again. By
this means the same certificate probably
reached the hands of th treasurer two or
three or a half dozen times, giving him
erroneous impre.-filons regarding the
amount In circulation. The jury certifi
cate book was carefully, examined to
day, and found all right. Aa to cer
tificates being presented, calling for
Juror's pay at the rato of two dollars per
day, whereas tho per diem Is ono dollar
and fifty cents, It has been discovered
that in one and, pmuibly, two Instance,
tho number of days in tho body of
tho certificate, was wrongly stated.
For example, a certificate calling
for nlxdollars for " thrco day's services",
should have been filled up for "four
day's services . That, In tho course of
yenr-, one mistake, or uven a half dozoii
mistake of this kind should occur,
nhould occasion no surprise whatever.
In the Instance referred to, the amount
win right and tho number of days wrong.
Thus i a matter, which scandul-mongcra
glnated over, HalUfautorlly explained.
Whatever may tie the character of tlio
city .-crip In circulation, (and as yet theru
has been but one bogus onfer discovered)
it U an ascertained certainty that the
Cnnelu-hiii that there Is an uuduo quan
tity of JurorV certificates yet out, is not
warranted by facts as they exist.
