Wiliiston to Hare a Land Office The Grand Forks Herald says that within a year it ii expected that the order made by the secretary of the in* terior, merging the Grand Forks land office with that at Devils Lake, and the Fargo office with t|at at Bismarck, which was reoalled over a month ago, will be again promulgated. At the next session of congress 8enator Hansbrongh will make an effort to secure the forma tion of another land office district in Nprth Dakota, at .Wiliiston, taking ter ritory from the present Minot district to xqake up the new. In fayor of the establishment of a land office at Wil iiston, it is claimed that the settlers in that section of the state are required to go oyer a liuridrpd miles to prove up or to transact business of a land office nature, and as there is.considerable un occupied land in the extreme western part of the state it is expected that there will be no difficulty in securing the establishment of an additional land office in the state, which would proba bly be established about the time that the Grand Forks and Fargo land offices cpase to exist." The Graphic baa faith in Mr. Hansbrough's promise, and we feel positively sure that, with Senator Hansbrough's friendly feeling toward this section of the state, Wiliiston will have the much coveted land office within the next 19 months. All the ages between 7: and 17 may learn something new, and many who did not learn it before 17, may take a fresh thought from the inference. In the 8tate Code, Chapter 42, Sec tion 7838, reads: "Any person within this state who sells, or gives to, or in any way fur nishes to, any person under the age of seventeen yeaTS, any cigarettes, cigars, or tobacco of any kind, shall be punished by a fine of not more than fifty dollars, or imprisonment in a county jail for not more than 30 days." We, the undersigned business men and land owners, residing in Williams eounty, North Dakota, having given the matter of the proposed irrigation of im portant portions of this county by the government* our careful and earnest consideration, and having especially considered* the ratio of the cest to the benefits that would be derived there from, do, most unhesitatingly advise that land owners and claimants of land under the. laws of the United States grasp the opportunity thus generously offered by our great government, through the action of congress, guided and directed by President Roosevelt and senator Hansbrough, and to signify their intention of subscribing for water for their lands in caise the proposition is found to be feasible. We urge this courses in the full belief that it will result in vast profit "to the individual land owners, to a much greater extent than would be possible without irriga tion, and that the results in better roads, better schools, a higher civilisa tion, lower taxes and interest rates can hardly be over estimated. We are fully convinced that careful study and a full understanding of tfie proposition will result in the removal of any possible objections on the part of those, who upon fi^8t consideration, may not en tirely favpr the project, ang, we there fore urge the immediate ao«eptanc,e of the Offer, since other localities are de-. mandicg the use of the funds in case they are'not utilized here.
