PETITION We, the undersigned, being the owners of a majority of the Property to be especially benefitted thereby, do respectfully petition you to con struct curbs ana gutters and grade streets, including the establishment of the grade on Second Avenue West of the City of Williston, from the Northwest Corner of Lot 7 of the NE1-4 NE1-4 Sec. 23-154-101 to Fifth Street and that the cost of said improvement be paid for by special assessment to be levied against the property benefitted thereby, accord ing to law: Signed by Edwin A. PETITION To the Mayor and City Council of the City of Williston, N. D. We, the undersigned beg to respect fully call your attention to the fact that some two years ago a petition signed by settle thirty property own ers on East Broadway east of Fifth Avenue East petitioned you to place two street lights on said street east of Fifth Avenue East and to furnish current for the homes on said street, and represented to you at that time that said petitioners would use elec tricity in each of their homes if the city would extend the Electric Sys tem. The petition of the Williston Con cert Band heretofore mentioned in these minutes again came up for dis cussion, the petition being as follows: To the Honorable Mayor and City Council, Williston, North Dakota. Gentlemen: Realizing the great benefit to the City of Williston as well as to each and every resident thereof which is derived from cnocerts given by he Williston Band, and the further fact that heretofore the band has been supported largely if not wholly by a comparatively few business men, We, the undersigned, residents of the City of Williston, do hereby re spectfully request and petition, that you do appropriate and pay to the band a certain sum of money, (rec ommended at $750.00 per annum by the Commercial Club) in payment of such open air concerts as may be given by the band. In making this petition, we real ize that no appropriation for such purposes was made by your body at the time appropriations for other city purposes were made, and that if this petition is granted such appropria tion must become an over-draft, and we realize further that whatever ap propriation made must be repaid by a tax levy We hereby agree to assume our proportionate share of such addition al tax, when levied, and to uphold such action of the City Council which has already been endorsed by the Commercial Club of Williston. Tom Costello from the south side is visiting at John McKay's for a few days. J. H. Jansen from Wheelock was a Sunday visitor here. There seems to be quite an attraction down here for him. E. O. Westcott goes to Williston Tuesday to be in attendance at the meeting of the assessors Wednesday. E. O. Westcott and wife, Mrs. M. Mutual Life Passes The Billion Mark Reports on Payments During Its Sixty Nine Years of Existence During the last year the Mutual Life Insurance Co., paid to policy holders and their beneficiaries more than $57, 000,000. and exceed the record of 191 by nearly $600,000. This amount ex ceeded the receipts for premiums, etc., more than a million and Records Broken All previous records in cash return payments to policyholders were broken last year—the amount turned back to them being over thirteen and a half million dollars.
