MUSIC FEATURE IN CONVENTION John Alexander, one of the best known secretaries of the Interna tional Sunday School Association, is to be one of the leading attractions at the North Dakota Sunday School Specifically, he says: Wednesday, May 23, is to be the National Maxwell Gasoline Econ omy Proof Day. —•Upwards of 2,000 dealers in the United States and Canada will demonstrate to the public everywhere that the Maxwell makes the most economical use of its gasoline. I am to be one of the Maxwell dealers so to demonstrate the Max well car. My demonstration will take place right here at home. —complete details will be published later. —Owners' cars are to be used exclusively in the test runs. Men known here will act as official observers. The Maxwell factory has given me information on how to go about making this run. —naturally, this touches on how to prepare the cars. But there is nothing secret about it. I publish the instructions in full here. Advice From World's Foremost Driver "Here is how you can get the greatest mileage from a Maxwell and one gallon of gasoline." The foregoing is the title to a treatise on gasoline economy by Ray F. McNamara. Convention, in which northwestern Minnesota is to co-operate, which will be held at Fargo, June 20-22. Mr. Aletcrfhder has been in this part of the country several times be fore, the last time being at the State Sunday School Convention at Devils Lake last year. He is a Scotchman and is full of the canny Scotch hu mor and a lot of good sense, so that he known how to put his subjects in the most telling and interesting way. Boy and girl work in connection with the Sunday School is Mr. Alex ander's specialty. If there is any thing about this subject that he does not know, it yet remains to be dis covered, by his friends and those who have heard him speak. He will ap pear several times on the regular con vention program and also in the con ferences on Secondary work. As usual music is to play a great part in this convention. A strong music committee has been appointed in Fargo which is arranging to gath er a large chorus choir, which will lead out in the singing of patriotic and religious music. Rev. Mr. Wil liams of Wisconsin, has been secured as director. All the regulac, sessions of the con vention will be held in the big audi torium. It is anticipated that noth ing less than a building of this ca pacity will be able to hold the crowds. He is the foremost automobile driver in the world—has covered more than 700,000 miles at the wheel. McNamara is the road engineer for the Maxwell company. The Maxwell company alone employs an expert of this kind to constantly test its product. No more experienced man lives to tell me how to make sure of a high mileage in my local economy proof demonstration. —his treatise was in the form of instructions. "Use Maxwells Exactly as They Are" In the above quotation, you have the paramount and overwhelm ing note in these McNamara instructions. I have never read anything else just like them. Costs Less Than Any Car to Run and We're Going to Prove It We're going to show you that a Maxwell will go farther on a gallon of gasoline than any other car made. And it's all going to be done out in the open—-from selection and preparation of the cars to the finish of the test runs* Here's our proposition to the public: We're getting ready now for our part in the great international economy demonstration. We invite you to our sales rooms to see the thing done. If you want to know how and why the Max well saves dollars on gasoline, see this through from start to finish. We urge you to. E MAXWELL "Select Maxwell stock touring cars that have been run 3,000 miles or more and, if they have a fairly even compression in each cylinder, leave them about as they are for your special economy proof run. "Do not try to improve on the Maxwell engineers. Do not seek to employ any tricks to get high mileage. I have made gasoline economy tests in every part of the United States and I have never been able to find a way in which I could improve upon what our engineers have given our regular stock car. Every time I have tampered with the stock equipment my net result has been: "—time wasted and mileage lost. "Old cars give somewhat more mileage than the strictly new car, as a usual thing. This is because the old cars—cars that have run 3,000 miles or more—have been limbered. See that the car is oiled well and that the springs are well lubricated with graphite. "Valve timing and all carburetor adjustments should be standard by all means. "Valve setting should be standard. "The Maxwell uses the least gasoline when driven at a legal speed of 15 or 20 miles an hour. Do not go faster. Use Standard Equipment Throughout "The dash adjustment should be set the same as for everyday driv ing don't tamper with the stock adjustment. "Do not change the carburetor float and do not tamper with the taper of the needle valve. "Use ordinary gasoline by all means. The stock Maxwell is engi neered to run with the gasoline available to the owner everywhere. High test fuel gives more power, but less mileage. "Use standard tires and inflate to 80 pounds. "The most important things art to see to it that your car is in good mechanical condition, with brakes free and wheels turning easily, and a course that gives it the ordinary going that the owner would put it to. No trick adjustments are required anywhere in the Maxwell, what ever such tricks or adjustments may accomplish other cars. "Follow these instructions to the letter and your car will do 30 miles been accomplish! cars. Out of these n|icncn«,«, 35.6 miles in California, I have learned that the one imperative thing to do is this: "Use the Maxwell for economy exactly as the factory makes it "Practice careful driving."
