FORTY-ONE FOR TEACHERS'EXAMINATION. THE LARGEST NUMBER OP APPLICANTS FOR CERTIFICATES KNOWN AT ANY EXAMINATION HELD IN WARD COUNTY. Miss Daly informs us that this is th'e largest number of applicants for teachers' certi cates at an examination ever held in ward county. Last October there were 29 applicants and this was considered the largest at the time. The teachers are all bright appearing, energetic edu cators. Torning. Iver Strand called on a few of his friends last week. John stakstoa has finished his spring's •work. Albert Stakston is busy breaking for Dan King, the homesteader. The Torning ball team played the Norwich team Sunday. The score was 10 to 12 in favor of Torning. Geo. Nixon is busy seeding flax.. The services at A. E. Stakston were well attended last Sunday. Aa elegant supper was served to all. A. E. Stakston is putting in 75 acres of flax this year. Mrs. L. T. Larson has two acres of garden. It is up and looks fine. John Stakston and Ludvig Mikklson have dissolved partnership-breaking. Iowa Township. Mr. Larson and Mr. Berce were in the vicinity selling milch cows. Mr. Coswell is the first one here to get through with spring work. Mr. Shildler had bad luck in starting to Canada. He arrived at Minot and found that his proof had not been ac cepted at Washington. Mrs. Campbell and Mrs. Smith were Minot callers Saturday. At the Hospital. A baby girl was born to Mrs. Dr. Seaton this week. Miss Minnie Beardslev of Ash by, Minn, is a new nuree. Mrs. Marves was operated upon for gall stones Saturday. Halle Josephson, is receiving treatment for a broken collar bone. Ed Price from Yelva was brot in Monday. Miss Hendrickson has return ed from her claim at Velva where she spent two weeks. S. L. Ream is breaking sod for Frank Beltzhoorer. Leave orders with the New York Store. I. N. Bryan, the popular in surance man, bought two lots from J. E. McKoane, in the block south of the court house, and will build two §1000 residences, one of which he will occupy. Register of Deeds Briggs re ports the fees for May for Ward, county were §1,079. They have' averaged for the five months be ginning January 1904,1,047.25. No other county in the state can show so good a record. £Dr. Ekrem has moved his office from above P. P. Lee's store to Dr. Mohn's old office a block west of the Second National Bank and will take charge of his prac tice. Dr. Mohn expects to leave for the coast this week where he will locate. Atty. N. Davis delivered the Memorial day address at a big celebration at Carpio Monday. Five old soldiers were present. A big crowd marched to the ceme tery where graves were deco rated. An interesting program was rendered after which a game of ball was played. A. S. Blakey's three story building is nearly completed. The second floor will used for offices. Jos. Devine will occupy a suite of office rooms for the in investment banking business, which he will open in this city. The third floor will make an ideal lodge room. There are rooms for everything, including the goat. He was an Illinois farmer, one of the kind who believes every thing bad and nothing good of North Dakota. I was standii in the little country store greet ing my old time friends, when he approached me and feeling of my coat said, "My, do they wear those kind of clothes up there? I thot you all wore buck skins." The fellow was honest in his opinion. Architect. L. S. Mallory, of St. Louis, has opened an architectual office in the brick building next to Olaf Olson's office. He is a graduate of one of the best schools of archi tecture in the country and is al ready figuring on some impor tant plans in this city.
