"N Tbe bill introduced in the leg islature to restrict county offi cers from holding office more than one term at a time, was de feated in the senate. The Tolley Journal claims that a Minot deputy who was sent to that place to make an arrest, insulted a woman at that place by calling her a liar. A report in a Chicago paper reads: "The Mayor of Cando is receiving coal by express," to which Mr. Currie remarked, "And we have got the money with which to pay for it." An exchange in speaking of a deceased citizen, said: "We knew him as old Ten Per Cent— the more he made the less he spent—the more he got the more he lent—he's dead—we don|t know where he went—but if his soul to heaven was seat—he'll own the harps and charge 'em rent." A. VV. Tallman, a homesteader who lived six miles from Imper ial, N. I)., was suffocated while loading straw. He dug into a stack which caved in on him. His team was noticed standing at the stack byaneighbor, whodug out Tallman's body. Tallmau was a young man and greatly respected. His relatives reside in California. They were from the country and were on tneir way to Minot. It was their first train ride and he had settled hi? "girl" and him telf in a corner seat of the day coach. As the train sped up the Soo line his arm began to steal around the girl's waist and his head inclined lovingly toward he *, unconscious of the observa tion of the passengers. A Tolley man dug a tunnel thru a twelve foot snow bank on the sidewalk and charged 25 cents toll the first time thru. A Bismarck special says that Major Butts has prepared a new appointment scheme which in creases the senatorial districts in the state to forty-eight. It al lows one senator from each and proposes to leave the house as it now is, with 100 members, two representatives from each sena torial district, and one more each to the fourlargestdistricts, with a basis of 9,000 people for each district each district having the largest fraction over that will get the four. Trail will lose one Pierce, McHenry, Ward and Wil liams will gain one and the thirty fifth and twenty-seventh districts will gain senators. Sorley, Twit chell and Casey oppose the scheme they favor a reduction in the east part of the state and increase in the west.
