Now anyone who ever visited Tagus and enjoyed the open handed hospitality of its citizens feels impelled to tell about it. Bank'and carries a^vill line of farm ng implements, machinery and thresh ers' supplies. He handles the Inter-, national, the Case and the Emerson Newton lines of implements and machinery Mr: Nelson is a pioneer merchant of the town, having former ly been in the general merchandising business. A." C. Christenson is the local black smith and is an expert at auto re pairing. The Christenson shop is well equipped and doing a fine business. More than $1,000 is paid out month ly by two local merchants for cream at this point. One ships to Minot and the other to Crookston, Minn. The Interdenominational Sunday school picnicked in the Great Northern grove Friday afternoon. We were very sorry that our train was on time, compelling us to forego the big feed that was being spread. Tagus maintains a good, live Com mercial club. Ira D. Bush is presi dent, J. Charlson, .vice president, and Editor Winnie, secretary. Tagus has a nifty little city hall, and afire fighting apparatus consist ing of two up-to-date chemical en gines. Chief Bugge gets the boys out occasionally for a snort run to keep them in condition for emergencies. I* Our first call was at the office of the Tagus Mirror, our object in calling' there was not because we were short of funds but from the fact that Bro. Winnie, the editor, is an old pal of ours. iWe found the Mirror occupy ing one of the neatest shops we have visited in our travels. It's a dandy little structure and demonstrates the fact that the editor is Johnny on the Spot, whether in the editorial chair, on the stage or wielding the carpen ter's hammer. By the way, Win can do a great big job with the editorial sledge when he camps on the trail of anyone whom he deems a menace to the public welfare. We enjoyed a very pleasant visit with Br6. Winnie and his estimable wife, and hope that every wayfaring newspaper man may have his lines cast in such pleasant places as ours in Tagus. Tagus is a hustling little city, hav ing two splendid banking institutions, two general stores, a hardware, and an establishment carrying a full line of agricultural implements. The best of educational advantages are afforded the young people by a beautiful brick school house occupying an eminence that gives it an especially fine setting for an institution of that character. There is a crying need in Tagus for a church, no denomination has so far seen fit to erect any structure there. In the meantime services are being held in the school house. A good active Sunday school is maintained, however, and the interest in its welfare and progress is a matter of general public concern. H. L. Johnson shipped a car of cat tle Friday- and among the number shipped was one short horn bull that tipped the scales at 2140 lbs. This makes the sixth car of live stock shipped from Tagus so far this sea son. The hill country is ideal for cattle, the immense sloughs contain ing the finest kind of grass for fat tening beef cattle. The Garland hotel, C. H. Gobel, proprietor, is a popular stopping place for the traveling public. "Dad" Phelps is proprietor of the pool hall and he has the reputation of running a pool hall right.. The Banner Mercantile Co. have a general store at this point and every thing about the place bears' the marks of being conducted in first class shape. This concern 'handles the P. S. Wick piano as a side line. E. J. Talbot,, of the Banner Mer cantile Co is a chicken fancier and has a pen of fine Buff Cochins. He says he can demonstrate the fact that they, are, greater producers than the Leghorn Last season he raised a. Cochin.'that weighed 12 lbs and a Cockerel that went 14 lbs. H. L. Johnson, runs thajGity Market and is an extensive buyer of beef cn tie whijgh he ships to ea&t^cn ,marke$. J. Charlson has a fine stock of gen eral merch&idise^ 'JSe^ also buj» cream of the farmers, paying them in cash or merchandise as they choose. y0Thf*Store malgNka «Wj»Wty 1**' dies! ana gents' fui&isjliniz®*? $,v^¥u£.' P. Nelson hhs ergeted an im .plement store opposite the First State Rev. Grabow of Aurelia and the pastor of the Norwegian Lutheran church of Palermo hold services in the school house regularly. Two cars of nogs have been ship ped already and four more cars are being got into condition for shipment from Tagus this season. Ira D. Bush is the only exclusive hardware dealer in Tagiis. He has a large trade and enjoys the confidence and esteem of everyone. Everyone say Ira's word is as good as a gov ernment bond. He is president of the school board and active in every inter est that tends to benefit the commun ity. Fred Woodworth is proprietor of the livery stable and has an unusually fine lot of horses. Attorney .W. Blichfeldt has been on the sick list but is now able to be around again. H. J. Bugge, proprietor of the City Pharmacy, is very strict in complying with the laws of the state which ac counts for the fact that his permit was not requested in the recent cam paign against drug stores.. Severt Gudmunsun is kept busy these days borinjg deep wells for farm ers in the vicinity of Tagus. He re ports marked success so far this sea son. The Citizens State Bank of Tagus is doing a fine business this year in spite of the general tightness of the money market. The officers of this bank are Chas. E. Paulson, Pres., Henry Soth, Vice Pres., and E. W. Parker, Cashier. Besides doing a large business in lands they write considerable fire and life insurance.
