Burr, wife of Judge Burr, is precariously ill from heart trouble at Rugby. Mrs. Jacob Lessman, aged 72 years, died at the home of her son, Wm., east of Mohall. Mohall will hold an "After Harvest Celebration" sometime during the present month. W. T. Cooper, who publishes the Benedict Banner, has installed a new paper at McLaughlin, S. D. The Larimore Pioneer is 34 years old and like good whiskey, Brer Rich ter's paper improves with age. C. E. Goodsell, who recently sold the Dunseith Magnet, will go to Washing ton, where he owns a fruit farm. "The Spoilers" is being shown in the movies about the state. Some more free advertising for Aleck. The Mott Spotlight and some of the leading merchants of that favored spot, are conducting a piano contest. The Mohall State Bank announces that it will write drafts, or make out deeds, mortgages, notes, etc., free of charge. W. S. Davidson of Williston reports a yield of 30 bushels of Gehu flint corn per acre from 65 acres, and nice ma tured corn, too. Syver Brekke of Mott used a con coction which he made from snuff, pepper, salt and alcohol and now he's in the bug house. The state School of Forestry at Bot tineau is teaching voice and piano. What's hitting the ivories got to do with planting cottonwoods? The San Francisco fair closes Dec. 4 and the exposition at San Diego will cl6se Dec. 31. Many North Dakotans will attend the closing days of the fairs. H. Hart was fined $10 for stealing several ivory pool balls from a Sher wood pool hall. He would probably have lugged the tables off were they not so heavy. President Wilson has signed the proclamation throwing open 200,000 acres of fertile land on the Berthold Indian Reservation, in 1916. More particulars later. A young couple from Guthrie eloped and attempted to get married at Tow ner, but the young woman's patents caused the arrest of the groom-to-be, who was placed in jail. A male degenerate stole some mer chandise from a Deering store and hiked into the country but was over taken by an officer with the assistance of a Ford. He was fined $17. Rev. Hoard, who preached at Wol ford in the early days, is now selling portable bath tubs. "Who was it said something about cleanliness being next to Godliness?" inquires the Mir ror. Homer F. White, a transient, was arrested at Deering, charged with un lawful cohabitation, his partner in crime being a woman employed on a cook car. The couple were taken to Towner. Two young threshers engaged in a drunken brawl near Wolford, and one, to prove he was the better man, stuck a knife in the other's throat and twist ed it around several times. The vic tim will live. Ten years ago No. 1 wheat was sell ing for 72 cents a bushel., When one considers the present price, 85 cents, at this writing, with the fine yields and large acreage, it doesn't seem too bad, after all. The New Rockford Transcript has invested in a new linotype machine. Editor Olsen has been getting out one of the best papers in the state, and with his new equipment, he will find his work easier. Glenburn threshers came to Minot and secured some forty rod whiskey, which they peddled to members of L. W. Armstrong's crew, causing several fights. The pair were arrested charg ed with bootlegging. A Glenburnite who had looked into the cups too often, got out the police, justice and legal departments late one night, when he thot he had been rob bed. Later his roll was found under his bureau where he had put it. A farmer named Beckman at Het tinger grew a Hubbard squash weigh ing 25 pounds and O. C. Olson of the same place is displaying a turnip that tips the scales at 12 pounds. These should be sent to the San Francisco exposition. Senator McCumber is still touring the state in his auto, in the interests of his candidacy for re-election. He expects to visit every hamlet and ap pears to be building some fences that the "other fellow" will have a hard time crossing. Mrs. J. F. Haskett has sold the Bot tineau Courant to O. T. Rishoff of Grand Forks. The new owner is a very capable printer and as an editor ial writer, he stands among the very best in the state. He was formerly publisher of the Milton Globe. The Independent welcomes Brother Rishoff back into the field. Mike Breen's Wolford Mirror is ten years old. Mike says that as long as he publishes the paper he will use his own judgment about what to print and what not to print. He further says that he will run the paper only as long as it pays, but guarantees to re fund his subscribers a return of their money whenever the Mirror does sus pend. The Mirror isn't as large as Ifi Some degenerate stole an overcoat from Peter Christensen's auto at Vel va and left his mark by slashing the auto seat with a knife. Chas. Wilson, a Williston farmer, was robbed of his roll, $30, by his companion in the rear of a saloon in East Grand Forks. The thief was chased by officers thru grain fields and was caught. Ole Lunde, a single man, who lived on a farm seven miles east of Willis ton, was cut to pieces by a G. N. train between Buford and Mondak. Lunde had been drinking and the man was put off the train. Henry Ford says he would like to see a tin can tied on the fellows who came here from England and France to secure that war loan, which proves that Henry has a few Fords left, re marks the Souris Messenger. An insane man, whose name could not be learned, was arrested at the Long Farm north of Velva. He was placed in the jail at Velva, when he set the bedding on fire. He was tak en to Towner and adjudged insane, be ing sent to the asylum. He had a lib eral amount of I. W. W. literature. Larimore will celebrate Booster Week fittingly. A home products din ner, much of the provender being do nated by the farmers, will be served, and the folks from the surrounding country will be invited in for that day. After the dinner a program will be rendered. The dinner will consist of fruits, meats, vegetables, cakes, cheese, butter, eggs, and in fact every thing good to eat that is raised in the state. Bro. McGarry of Alexander, man ages to keep his paper up to a high standard, despite the fact that he is one of the busiest publishers of the state. "Mac" is secretary of the N. D. P. A. and editor of the Press Bul letin. By the way, the number issued recently was a dandy, being chock full of good things. The Bulletin will be issued quarterly. Vernor Carson, a 14-year-old North Dakota boy grew 44 bushels of wheat to the acre and for a time he was hail ed as the champion wheat grower of the state. But after M. D. Graham of Burlington came forward with 54 bushels to the acre and Tanous Bros, of Hettinger with alike yield, the lad had to take a seat farther back, and yet he deserves much credit for his good work. He prepared the land and sowed the seed himself. Speaking of the condition of wheat, J. H. Cover of Surrey says the week's rains undoubtedly damaged wheat some, bleaching it. Besides, the bun dles that are down on the ground are apt to sprout, lowering the grade. He thinks the farmers should look after these bundles right away.
