There is an interesting contest on in the city in which only the mail car riers are entered. Postmaster Fred L. Anderson has offered a prize of $10.00 to the carrier who sells the most War Savings Stamps and Thrift Stamps daring the present quarter which ends March 31st. The carriers have entered into the game and are doing their best to sell stamps. The present standing of the contestants up to Feb. 1st, 1918, is: Jesse F. Cline $689.35 T. W. Hanson 6.37 It is expected that during this month the low men will make a big sprint and force some of the high ones to go some. Seven School Children Killed When Train Hits School Bus. Seven school children were killed, five seriously hurt and 13 painfully in jured at Barnum, Minn., when a school bus was struck by a N. P. train. The driver, who did not see the train approaching on account of his rig being enclosed, was not seri ously injured. Three of the dead children were brothers, sons of a farmer named Kaivo. NOTICE OF REGISTRATION OF GERMAN "ALIEN ENEMIES" Notice is hereby given that under the authority of the Proclamation of the President of the United States, dated November 16, 1917, that the At torney Geenral of the United States has designated February 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th, 1918, as the dates for the Registration of German alien enemies in the district, and such alien enemies in the Minot district, which includes not only the City of Minot, but all adjoining territory served by the Minot post office, are hereby re quired to register at the Police Sta tion in the City of Minot, on one of the days above designated, between the hours of 9 o'clock A. M. and 5 o'clock P. M. of said days. The "Alien Enemies" so required to register are all German 'males of the age of fourteen years and upward, who shall be within the United States and not actually naturalized as Amer ican citizens." Suggestions and Instructions to Reg istrants. Persons required to register should understand that in so doing they are giving proof of their peaceful disposi tion and of their intention to conform to the laws of the United States. Every registrant should read care fully the form of registration affidavit handed to him and isk the registra tion officer for explanation on all points not clear to him before at tempting to fill out the blanks. Reg istration officers are instructed to give registrants all possible aid in the way of explanation and advice. Each registrant is required to fur nish four unmounted photographs of himself, not larger than 3 by 3 inches in size, on thin paper, with light background. All four photographs should be signed by the registrant across the face of the photographs, so as not to obscure the features, if the applicant is able to write. Three blank forms of registration affidavit must be completely filled out by the registrant or his representative (with the exception of blanks indicat ed to be filled out by the registration officer and the description of the reg istrant and the placing of finger prints on the blank) and must be produced by the registrant personally to the registration officer and be signed and sworn to by the registrant in the pres ence of and before the registration officer, who will fill in the description of the registrant and supervise th3 fixing of the finger prints and the at taching of the photographs. If the registrant can not wi ite he must make his mark in the signature space and affix his left thumb \»rint in the space provided opposite the signature space The finger printing is a method of identification and follows the practice observed in the military and' naval service of the United States. The registrant is hereby informed that he must again present himself before the registration officer who took his oath after 10 days but before 15 days from the last day fixed for registration in his registration district to obtain a registration card, upon which he must sign his name, or make his mark, and place his left thumb print in the presence of the registra tion officer.
