(Newark' American Tribune
Tlio niati fed ward Roberts wart tnkcn
back to Dannemora prison, New York
(ate, Wednesday, nnd with little
trouble.
Parole Officer E. C. Fnrrington
reached here at 11:00 a. m, on the
Intemrhan road, coming by tho New
York Central to Columbus. Hu at
once Went to the olllco ot Sheriff 81a
baughnud Introduced himself and was
taken to the Jail, where Roberts wo
gotten ready for the trip.
Marshal Hobbs, of Utlca, who cap
tured the man was here, having occn
notified of the coming ot Farrlngton
by Sheriff Slabaugh. Officer Harring
ton paid Mr. Hobbs tho 150 reward for
the capture of tho man. Mr, Farrtng
ton said that the .man Iloberts was n
trusty and had but two months of his
time to serve. ,Hy this running away
bo would forfeit much of his good
tltiin and still had a prison sentence
ahead of him.
Iloberts had said that ho would not
go back to New York alive, and after
he was' taken from tho cell It was
found that ho had partly sawed off a
bar of tho coll. Tho work had been
done with a knlfo blado knotched for
the purpose. On tho way up from tho
Jail Roberts had experienced an ap
parent change ot heart. Ho said ho
watt giaJd to got out of this prison as
It wan one of tho more unsanitary
ones of which he knew. The observa
tion Is very unfortunate ns tho man
Iloberts had done time In state's pris
on in Canudu twice nnd nnco In the
United States. Ho was not satisfied
-with tho kind of trcntinont of a trusty
in Dannemora and It could hnrdly bo
oxpoctcd that tho Licking county Jail
would meet his requirements as an
expert.
Farrlngton Is to take no chances
on a change of Intention by Roberts.
Hu took him to ColumbUu and tlioro
nt onco took n New York Central train
for Cleveland, Tliero Roberta will get
In a good Jail over night and will re
huuio his Journey the next morning.
