OSCAB WOOD MAY,
GET OUT OF JAIL
Friends Say He Was Under
Influence of Drink
When Arrested.
It is hoped and virtually assured that
the Mexican law will deal lightly with
Oscar B. Wood, the postmaster at Chani
berino, N. M., who as arrested on a
National railway train in Juarez last
week. By tonight bail will have been
procured, lz is promised.
That the man was under influence of
drink is the contention of his friends,
and one credited by the Juarez author
ities. It is explained that Wood had
seme drinks In El Paso, and boarded
the Mexican train instead of the Santa
Fe, which he was to taKe home. When
arrested in Juarez after slapping' the
face of an Immigration inspector, he held
a ticket on the American . road to La
Tuna, the nearest station to his home.
He mistook the inspector for a conduc
tor. It is explained.
This morning the postmaster's wife,
carrying a baby in her arms, and her
brother, G. F. Worden. a LasPaiomas
merchant were engaged in advancing
the cause of the jailed official. Mrs.
Wood seems greatly overcome by the
excitement of the affair and more than
once fainted in the offices visited on
the trip. A number of affidavits will be
procured to the effect that Wood when
drinking is usually out of his head.
