shot at officer Smith, the police re
port The man was overpowered and
conveyed in the police patrol to Hotel
Dieu.
At noon today coroner McCIintock
first heard of the death of W. C. Mayo.
He was called to Hotel Dieu. He hurried
to the institution and learned there of
the death of Mayo. But the, body was
not in El Paso. The .undertaker had
been Instructed to shfp the body to
Victor, Texas, and had done so Monday
night
Authoritles at the hospital "say that
Mayo was brought last week in the po
lice patrol, raving wildly. The poison
had been administered before coming
to the institution, they say. Reports
have It that the man attempted to shoot
himself at his home.
According to Dr. F. A. Hughes, the at
tending physician, the man died the slow
death produced by the drugs. The phy
sician does not know if the act was sui

and a small daughter evidently depart
ed from the county with the body
City health officials say that the
death certificate reported the death as
occurring at tne residence, auo -iiyrne
avenue, instead of at the hospital; also
that the certificate indicated nothing of
a violent death.
Mayo was an electrical engineer. He
came to El Paso a few months ago.
