says Cook seeks to recover $10,000

been added to tlio Datll National forest In New Mexico and nearly a hun
dred thousand acres of Innd Trill be thrown open to settlement by a proc
lamation Issued by president Taft today.
It reclassifies that forest and adds mere than 1S3.000 acres of wooded
lands to the national forest fdomaln. .
The mining camp of Fluorine In the forest, is now classified in homestead
lands.
AH lands restored . will be thrown open to settlement by an act of the
secretary of the interior later.

day filed in the district court a complaint asninst the New Mexico Central
Railroad company to foreclose n mortgage to secure an Issue of $2,000,000 In
bonds and asking for a receiver to sell the property In its entirety.
The railroad was liullt from Santa Fe to Torrance, 116 miles, by Pean
sylvanla capital and the complaint alleges that the company Is Insolvent and
In at present being operated by a receiver, C. C. Marray, of Pittsburgh The
action Is reported to be preliminary to an extension of the line from Torrance
to Roswell and from Morinrty to the Hagen coal fields and Albuquerque.

ish in Draughon's Business college at
El Paso until recently, when she re
signed and went to Long Beach to ac
cept a similar position in a business

Construction company was convicted in
federal court this morning on 45 counts
charging the importation of alien labor
into the United States for railroad
work In Arizona, and was sentenced to
pay fines aggregating $45,000.. Xotice

corted by a funeral party of his El Paso
friends, the body of J. E. House arrived
Wednesday afternoon over the Rock Is
land from Xew York- The party leffc
El Paso Tuesday evening1 and met Airs.
House in New Mexico and 'acted as an
escort of honor to the body of the de
ceased merchant, the remainder of the
loner trip from Berlin, Germany, to El
Paso.
The body was taken to the House
home on Montana street and will remain
there until 10 a. m. Thursday, when it
will 'be escorted to the Elks' home,
4vhere it will lie in state unAil the fu
neral services at 4:30 p. m.
Thei train .was met by- a delegation at
the Elks' lodjre and tie funeral will be
in charge of the lodge in which, fr.
House was an active memfber.
The fire department, of which the de
ceased EI Pasoan was chief at one time,
will attend these services in a body.
The members will meet at Central sta
tion at 3 oclock Thursday. The funeral
will be attended also by the Woodmen
of the World and the"other fraternal
organizations to which Mr. House be
longed. The interment will probably be
in the Elks' rest in Evergreen cemetery.
