Cananea, Son., June 27. There was
not the slightest excitement in the elec

and the rurales lent their assistance.
The election passed without the least
trouble and the city was tranaull
i throughout. There were no disturbances
j and no armed troops were seen the en
tire daj'. The soldiers went to the polls
unarmed and there was no parade.
The anti-Diaz faction was defeated
on the mesa by a vote of 262 to 164.
In Ronquilltf the vote stood 304 to 95.
This shows the strength of the antire-
electionists; also their excellent control
of their members in keeping order,
proving themselves supporters instead
of enemies of the government.
Last evening there was a moving pic

In an Interview with the governor
Sunday he -stated that he did not ex
pect any disturbances anywhere.
Saturday evening he wired vice presi
dent Ramon Corral to the effect that
Cananea was tranquil. Sunday morn
ing he received an answer as follows?
"Am pleased to learn of condition
of tranquility in Cananea. Such, how
ever, is the condition throughout the
republic. Ramon Corral."
During the day the governor, accom

Everything was very quiet and orderly,
but both the Diaz and antireelectionist
forces were trying to get out the vote,
apparently. Both sides had the town

Sunday and Good Vote Polled
By a nine to four ratio the anti-re-electionist
ticket Tas defeated Sunday
in Ciudad Juarez, and reports from
outlying wards of the local district
show an overwhelming victory for the
Diaz party. About 2000 votes were cast
in the 13 wards of the city, four of
which were carried by the "antis." Of
the 10 rural wards all were carried for
the reelectionists.
There was perrect order in the Mex

during the day without interruption,
and, although there are no "rainy day
Democrats" in Mexico, the deluge of wa
ter made little difference. It is esti
mated that two-thirds of the voting
population of Juarez visited the polls.
Juarez is the convention center of the
local district and for three days begin
ning July 10 electors from the whole
district wil convene there. In all, 19
electors were elected by the Republicans
and four by the Democrats, according
to statements made this morning.
"The four antl-reelectionist electors
may vote for Diaz, I think," said jefe
politico Francisco Portillo to The Her

"With Colquitt as governor and that
contingency arose Campbell would not
nave the least chance. The same would
probably be true of Johnson, for he
would undoubtedly call a special ses

Johnson Also AVnnts Bailey's Scalp.
Leaving senator Culberson out of
consideration, there is no doubt if
Johnson Is elected that he will be an
opponent of Bailey two years from now.
As governor he would have an oppor
tunity of lining up the solid prohibi
tion vote and all the anti-Bailey vote,
and Campbell would be left out in the
cold.
With Johnson beaten he would nat
urally be considered weak and that
would give Campbell, who has never
been defeated, a stronger following and
would make him the logoical candi
date. That all these matters are being con
sidered by the ambitious politicians,
and that the special session of the leg
