Tae transformation of Stanton street from a rendezvous of dray "wagons and fruit stands to a business street, Is be ing accomplished so rapidly that men about town -who are on the streets each day can hardly recognize the new busi ness thoroughfore as being the same. To Vae J. Calisher Dry&oods company is due the credit for this transformation. Starting -with the announcement that the Calisher company -would erect a five story, concrete department store on the corner of Stanton and Texas streets, the realty prices -were at once increased. "When the same company lost Its old home by the Buckler building fire, the E. B. "Welch building on Stanton street was leased as temporary quarters. Then began the real transformation. From a, fire blackened building, -with nothing but gaudy red fire sale banners for decoration,- the Welch building has been mado over Into a modern department store vrlth soft carpeted stairways, aisle after aisle of -women's ready to wear garments, millinery, silk and dres3 goods, etc, etc., on the three floors of the new store. - As an out-ward sign of -wliat Is -within the J. Calisher company's show -windows on Stanton street, -which for merly -were filled -with fire, damaged furniutre, now offer a series of pano ramic panels, an attractive showing of imported gowns and hats and beautiful evening wraps and filmy laces. Against a background of white chiffon over pink the Calisher decorator has arranged an autumnal display which is most extraordinary. Autumn leaves in varie gated colors are grouped with chrys anthemums and poppys in clusters around candelabra of soft shaded lights which give a soft, mellow glow to the windows when the evening shadows fall. A beautiful gown of black and white occupies the center panel surrounded by broad brimmed evening hats of black, white and the brighter colors, while afternoon and evening gowns are arranged with the most careful atten tion to display details which gives tne LOOK OVER THIS LIST OF SPECIAL They Will Save You Money There are still hundreds of rare values to be found in this stock.
