hours there have been 10 deaths from
the cholera and 27 new cases of tne

Kills "Wife and Her Sister.
Everett. Wash., Oct. --fanest
Wlnkley, .36 years old, last night shot
and killed his 23yearold wife and prob
ably fatally wounded his wife's sister.
Mrs. Pearl Mayfield, whose husband
lives in Kalispell, Mont., and then made
three attempts at suicide. He will
probably recover. The shooting oc
curred just before the family sat down
to supper at the home of Mrs. Wink
ley's father.

St. Louis. Mo., Oct. 15. Alfred Le
Blanc in a Bleriot monoplane made a
mile over a measured course, at Kin
loch aviation park in 53 seconds. This
is claimed to be the American record
and the world's record for speed over
a measured course.

Molten Metal Kills Two.
Pueblo, Colo., Oct. 15. Two men
were killed and one probably fatally
burned and a dozen others seriously in
jured at the Minnequa plant of the
Colorado Fuel and Iron company, when
a pot of molten metal was overturned.
The accident occurred in the open
hearth department while the metal
was being transferred from one fur- j
nace to another.

American Bankers' association on cot
ton bills of lading, Joseph T. Talbert,
vice president of the National City
bank, said: "By no means has an

Payson, Utah, Oct. 15. The appear
ance and conduct of a stranger led to
his arrest for the murder of Thomas
S. Karrick, the school boy who was
shot by a-burglar at his home in Salt
Lake City. The suspect gives his
name as Kells and denies knowledge
of the murder.
Discuss Mission Work.
Cincinnati, Ohio, Oct. 15. The third
joint session of the house of bishops
and the house of deputies of the Pro
testant Episcopal convention was de-
( voted exclusively to missionary topics.
No action was taken upon any of tho
leading questions before the conven
tion, but the afternoon was given over
to addresses by bishops.

San Francisco, Calif., Oct. 15. Clasp
ing the remnants of a doll in her arms,
the charred body of lOyearold Lillian
Simons, one of the inmates of the Cath
olic orphan asylum, burned to the
ground early last Sunday morning, -was
found by workmen clearing away the
debris yesterday. While the fire was
at its height the nuns In charge of tho
institution heroicallj1" marshaled their
150 charges in the corridors of the
blazing building and marched them to
safety. It was not until yesterday that
the absence of the Simons girl was
noticed. The girl came from Reno,
Nev.

Colorado Fires Conquered.
Denver, Colo., Oct. 15. Between 70
and SO firefighters have reached Den
ver, bringing word that the flames' on
Sheep and Big Chief mountains have
been extinguished. The rangers were
aided in their battle by a heavy rain.
A force of 20 men was left to patrol
that region and to search for the sus
pected incendiaries and guard against
an outbreak of the subdued fires.

late yesterday. The negro had taken
refuge in the hills near town and
fought off the posse until a bullet

were shot in the head and are thought
