Hoff man, will also be initiated into the lodge at this meeting, after which there will be a smoker and Informal lunch eon for the members and visiting brothers. M. O. Llewellyn was appoint ed as court bailiff. Mr. Llewellyn is six feet, four Inches in height, weighs 220 nounds and is an old time football player, and the orders of the court Vere promptly and strictly obeyed. An old fashioned corn shucking1 contest and ' "quilting bee ctflllbe held at the New j .Mexico Agricultural college in the near future, the affair to be given by the department of Agronomy to the stu dents of that department and the mem bers of the Aricultural club. The boys will contest in the corn shucking con test and the girls will compete with each other in the quilting contest, after which refreshments consisting of ap ples, pumpkin pies and cider will be served. The first prize at the game tables was won by Mrs. W. F. The Guild of the Episcopal church was delightful ly entertained at La Mesa at the home l of Mrs. J. R. Livesas. the program consisting of musical selections, in which the 'Misses Howard of El Paso, assisted with vocal music. Refresh ments were served and the proceeds of the church people of La Mesa are arrang ing to build a new church and are working hard to raise the necessar funds. CASES COMPROMISED. Las Cruces, X. M-, Oct. 31. In the dis trict court the civil case of the Las Cruces Lumber company vs. T. H. Casey was settled by compromise. The case of Benson, Crouch and Crouch against J. T. Smith was also settled in the same way. The case against Milton P. Martin on a peace bond was settled and Martin discharged. THE "UNWRITTEN LAW. Eight new phones will be put in on the new line at once. x COLLEGE WINS VGAIN. Las'Cruces, X. M., Oct. 31. The foot ball team of the Agricultural college met the'las. Cruces team on the college athletic field Saturday afternoon in a hotly contested game, the score re sulting 1G to 3 in favor of the college. SPECIAL "MATINEE TUESDAY. Owing to Wednesday being El Paso day at the fair, there will be no Wed nesday ' matinee at the Crawford this week, but a special matinee will be given Tuesday to accommodate the visitors that want to see "The Un written Law," based on the "Thaw White" tragedy.
