New York. N. Y.. Feb. 15. The stock market closed weak today. Conflict ing news regarding the status of af fairs in Mexico had a restrictive ef fect on speculation and although the market opened higher in sympathy with London, its strength was not long maintained. The crisis in negotiations between the railroads and the fire men was another restraining influence. Although sales of refined copper for future delivery at as low a price as 15 cents were reported, copper stocks showed a degree of firmness, owing primarily to short covering. The general market was heavy at times and became quite weak toward the end. Among the rail stocks North ern Pacific Lehich Valley. Canadian Pacific. By Winifred Blaeh. D EAR MISS BLACK: All my life I have regarded home life as the moat wonder ful and best thing that could come to a woman. I have now been married five years to a man I loved, or I should not have married him. but there is so home life. I am working for my daily bread and he is working, too, for a very small salary. With my nature It seems almost im possible to live without something to look forward to. I have nothing. I am a bookkeeper aad find it hard now adays to keep my mind on my work. I long for the good old days when men provided and women made the home. J. W. H. Well. well. J. W. H.. what a dread ful time you are having all by your self, and yet I know many people who are much worse off than you. Thousands of women stagger along with all of these troubles at once, and live through them, and make others nappy at that It never pays to worry about trou ble. Either get rW of It or stop fret ting; either get out of the condition that galls you so. or stop thinking about it immediately. You want a home life. How badly do you want it? Maybe you are the eae who is that How much does your husband get a week anyhow? Less than anybody else on earth, or do the men in the same office with your husband get the same salary he does? Hew do their families live on it and bear the life? I know people who are poor with. $75 a week to spend; others feel rich when they have $15; which class do you belong to? How do you knew you'd love heme life? Have you ever tried it? Home making isn't fun: It's work, and hard Work at that, and there Isn't a cent of money in it not a ceat How do you knew you'd be so in leve with it after all? So vou lone for the "good old days when men provided and women made the home." I've heard a great deal about those days. I wleh I'd -seen some of them. I asked an old. old woman about them the other' day and she said: "I reckon there have always been no account men and shiftless women as long as the world has been made," and I rather reckon with the old woman. Mavbe all the oave men were just 4 the right thing in the way of "pro viders ana perhaps an me cave -women had to do was to sit on a limb and wait for husband to drag home a deer or so for supper, but if human nature hasn't changed & whole lot since "dem days," there were a good many of the cave women up at dawn looking for deer themselves, and cooking it too. for a husband with "a misery" in his back, or a toe ache, or something that made him "inefficient" quite in the modern fashion. We make too mueh fuss over things these days, it seems to me. A man doesn't make as mueh money as he might, and his wife thinks she's "mls raated." A weman forgets to send the laundry to the wash and the husband grinds his teeth and goee out looking for an affinity. What's all the fuss about: anyhow? Are we getting so sensitive that we have to have everything perfect or we can't live at all? Think it all over. J. W. JU think it all over. What's really at the bottom of your whole ery for help? Are you tired of your husband? Are you ashamed of hire? Do you feel that you are cleverer than he is? Do you really love him a., all? If you did. do you think these "ideal conditions" would be so vital to you? A, . . Maybe you are III and tired and worn out and need a chasse. Do you know what I would do?
