JOHNSON More Intelligent Farming Methc.'s Will Be Employed All Over New County Next Year. •Farmers of Franklin county learn ed by bitter experience this year that fall sown wheat is the only safe crop for the new county, at least for a time until the ground becomes thoroughly cultivated," said Dr. R. S. Johnson this morning, who is in Walla Walla for a few days from his Franklin county ranch. "As a consequence next year's crop will consist principal ly of fall wheat. "It is true Franklin county had a shoit wheat crop this year, rnucn shorter in fact than some people sup pose, but for all that farmers are aoi; discouraged. They are only disap pointed. The pronounced shortage in the year's rainfall was responsible in a great degree for the short crop, though in many instances the land was not properly cultivated. This be came apparent when fields properly cultivated lying alongside of those which had been merely plowed pro duced much better crops. Next year will see much more intelligent meth ods employed all over the county. The result will be that with a norma] rainfall Franklin county will show up a banner crop." Dr. Johnson reports Connell pros pering since moving onto the new townsite. A water system has been installed and now an electric light system is under contemplation. HEIRS TO FORTUNE. BEEN BUSY SINCE LAST APRIL Expert Clark Se.ys Work Being Done Thoroughly and True Statement of Affairs Wilj fie Given Out. The work of experting the county books is proving an exceedingly long and tedious job with little prospect of a report being filed for some time yet. Expert Clark is now superin tendiug the work and is being assist ed by Accountants Randal] and New ell. The work was started last April, but owing to an outside demand for the experts' services little was ac complished during the early summer months. The work so far has cost the county in the neighborhood of $700. "Owing to the amount of work it is necessary to do it is hard to say when our report will be ready." Expert Clark said this morning. "The books of every county official for a period of a little over six years have to be gone over and this requires time. The work is being done thoroughly in every particular and the true state of the county's books will be embod ied in our report."
