Pullmanite in Portland.
Ex-Mayor Thco. T. Davis, in a
letter to \V. H. Harvey this week,
states that ho has leased the second
floor of a new building only half a
block from the main entrance to
the fair grounds at Portland, and
that he will hang out the biggest
sign in the city, bo that .Palousera
will know the place at which to
■top,
In speaking of the Lewie ami
Clark fair, which opens next week,
Mr. Daril says:
"The fair has assumed large pro
portions. It is third in point of
cost, second in area and first in the
beauty of its surroundings; being
located at the very foot of Wil
lamette Height? for the west view,
and the river for the east border
makes a most beautiful blending
of nature and art. The buildings
are very handsome, and the ap
proximate cost of the whole is
$7.f>00,000.
"We have just returned from
the grounds, where we went to en
joy the electric Illuminations. The
current was turned on to try the
effect and hearing about it we were
there to see it. I could not under
take to say how many incandes
cents were aglow, but the sight
was beautiful, beyond my descrip
tion. Imagine if you will —these
lights strung about a foot apart,
and lines of them on every comb
and eavc, corner, tower, dome,
arch an-i gable, and then thousands
of sprays of them around the
walks, terraces and parka, and you
have miles of them —well, that was
what we saw that evening."

TO THE PUBLIC.
Many irresponsible individuals, eith
er through spite, jealousy or ignorance,
are trying to injure my business by
circulating around that I, J. S. Char
lebois, scientific healer and teacher,
have been drummed out of Spokane
nad other towns. For this reason I
have deposited $50 in each bank here
in Pullman, which will be paid to any
one proving such vicious statement.
