Commenting upon the proposed world

and following methods that have run

Other great centers, much to the scan
dal of the drama, the New York World
alleges two reason'- why the project
won't go down in foreign art capitals.
First it rings in the old Barnumlsin
that the American people like to be
humbugged, whereas the play going
public in continental cities is of a dif
ferent order and takes the drama seri
ously. Furthermore, the Parisians,
Viennese and I'.eilmers know what
acting is and "whai a play should be."
If the theater trust should be pow
erful enough to force the Ideas of
Broadway upon the foreigners it is
hard to see where there is ground for
complaint. The whole lone of the show
business on the stage In this country
has been Imported from foreign marts,
and it is no palliation to say that only
the purlieus of Paris. Vienna and Ber
lin have been raked. A.merlca& agents
lie in wall In Europe to seize upon the
latest stage novelty for the American
boards, and the standards of taste here
In so far as they fall below "traditions
which date from Moliere" do not rep
resent American culture. The patron
age of the latest novelties from Paris
in Broadway halls comes cbleflj from j
those who ha\e seen the originals or 1
something of the same sort abroad.
Wore it not for la foreign educated
taste there would be no support here
for foreign plays of the type which has
driven the classic drama from the
boards. The theatrical syndicate will
have Invented something new if It
gives Europe anything different from
what it borrowed there originally.

a desirable one for the person having
a modest income. The entire loan j

bonus. The same money you are now
paying for rent will, in a few years,
if applied to Building and Loan stock, i

from the present Hasten) situation if their customers are as
loyal to local interests as are ours.
Much credit for the success of the measure* adopted for the
protection of Pullman's best business interests is due to the splendid
co operation of our customers who have joined with us in the use of
the check and draft system of exchange, as .1 means of protecting Un
available cash reserve of the community until specie shipments are re
sumed by Reserve Cities, This we think, will not be later than the
middle of the coming veek. If it is, however, we already have suf
