Among other resolu tions adopted was the following: Iiesolved, that the Farmers' and Laborers' Union, ol which we are members, and to which we have pledged our hearty support, and with the objects and methods of which we do most fully concur. musttleHuid largely upon the grow ing intelligence of its membership f'oi its power, influence and efficien cy. That, to promote the training and educational advancement of members, selection and reading of essays and the careful selection and reading of articles and dissensions of subjects ot pracitoal applacation to the duties and interests of mem bers, ought to be a part of the ex ercises at all stated meeting, and we emphatically enjoin the cheif offi cers of all lodges that this is an important duty and cannot bo neg lected with out injury to the causo to which wo have pledged our faithful adhesion and support. And wo lurther urge that members shonld su'weribe tor, for homo reading, such papers and journals as will tend to educate them in the objects aud methods of our order in the practic al aims ot life. 3. That the education of tiie com mon school, in which the chiidrcn of farmers ore educated in the main, should give iiettcr preparation for practical life than has heretofore resulted from the studies and meth ods now in vogue in them. We urge pucli readjustment as will make the study of elementry agriculture as now required by law one ot the principal studies, as a knowledge of underlying principles has become essential to the success of the far mer, and bUth study is only within the reach of farmers' children in the rural districts. Editors Bclli.tin Your correspon dent "II." from this place did tolerably well, but he i-topped too soon in bis de scription of this place rnd its surround ings, lie forgot to cay anything about the unlimited amount of the finest potter's clay in the United States, Thousands of car loads have been sent in every direct ion at remunerative prices. There is also and ochre mine, which when developed, will pan out profitably; and then we have a sand pit that yields a finer article than the Salisbury sand, but there is one trouble about the M. ! C. railroad. I understand when called on for a switch, the authorities said one sand pit was enough. Who ever heard of a railroad before this one wanting to restrict the trade on its line ? I thought it was the purpose of tailroads to build up every profitable enterprise along its line. Not so with this one snd I am sorry lor it. We have sugar trusts, wheat trusts and salt trusts, but it has gotten down now to a sand trust. Let one syndicate run the sand and make iversons wishing to build pay exorbitant prices for their building material. We have always heard that competition is the life of trade, but the Charleston railroad doesn't seem to thiuk so. Mr. "II." waa very cheek v when he was telling you Air. Ed itor to keep very quiet if you refused to publish his piece last week. I st-e he can buck up at an editor, but he keens very tpiiet about the action of railroads and syndicates. Then again, "II." says nothing about the successful marble yards which are running in fine style, also the pottery of Mr. Smythe, who is sending his tine wares to evey point of the com pass. Bii.-iness is looking up. and a.- lin y said in the II. ward trial, "the br.i-;; was fly ing around'' last Saturday.
