Circuit court met Monday, and
is still in session as we go to press.
Adam Garner received a sen
tence of ten years in the peniten
tiary, and Hugh und Walter Kirk
three years each.
Duck Pafi'ord was sentencod to
jail six months and fined $50 and
cost.
The case againe-t John Elmore
was compromised, and he married
tho defendant, Mis Lula Ballard,
Wednesday.
Full proceedings will be given
next week.

be ready for work soon.
Lilhe, little daughter of Marion
Davis, died Thursday of last week.
The child was taken with whoop
ing cough and later went into fe
ver. The interment was at Baker's
Chapol Cemetery. We join in ex
tending sympathy to the bereaved.

FARMERS' INSTITUTE.
In accordance with the call of
the president, the Benton County
Farmers' Institute met at the court
house in Camden on Saturday, the
10th instant, at 10.30 a. m.
On motion of Judge L. E. Davis,
an adjournment was taken nntil 1
p. m. (on account of the small at
tendance), at which time the meet
ing was called to order by the pres
ident and declared open for busi
ness. Grasses and general farming was
ably discussed by L. E. Davis.
W. D. Cooper discussed the sub
ject of agricultural instruction, in
sisting with C. C. Vick that this
important subject should be added
to the public school curriculum.
Poultry was the subject of a very
able address by T. J. Lowry, who
submitted figures and statistics
showing that chicken and egg rais.
ing is tho most profitable branch
of agriculture in our county and
State, and if conducted properly
can be made much more profitable
than it is at present.
Stock raising was discussed by
E. Guillen,. breeder of pure stock.
A general d iscuesion of the diseases
of live stock was engaged in by Dr.
J. B. Florence, T. J. Lowry, J. L.
Wright and others, which was very
instructive.
Preventives of the depredations
and destruction of grains, vegeta.
bles, etc., by rats and insects, was
discussed and several useful rem
edies or recipes were given by G.
B. Holladay, L. E. Davis, Robert
L. Phillips and others.
On motion, the election of dele
gates to attend the division insti
tute to be held at Jackson next
month was taken up, and L. E
Davis, G. B. Holladay and J. L.
Wright were appointed as a com
mittee to select delegates to said
institute, who reported the follow
ing names as delegates:

Fair at J ackson, Tenn., October 2G
and 31, will eclipfo all former ef
forts of the committee They have
secured the great Gaskill-Mundy
Carnival Co. for the week, which,
together with Mr. Sterling P. An
derson of Jackson as the director-
general, is a sufficient guarantee of
the success the enterprise. Special
etforts will be made to entertain
the visiting thousands during the
week. Cheap rates on all railroads
leading into Jackson good for the
entire week of this great celebration:
