Duncan at her residence ia this city, at the age of fifty-eight years. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Monday at two o'clock,. Rev. Sander3 and McNiel offi ciating. Her husband died about four teen months ago. She leaves a good many Telatiyes and friends lo motlrn oyer her loss. The snow Saturday made sleighing weli we might say perfect. Married.Mr. Dick Smith to Miss Clara Herning both of Shjepy Eye. Mr. Smith has been chief clerk at- our decelebrity pot for a number of years. Miss Clara has worked in the Herald office for about four years. Rev. McNeal tied the nuptial knot Monday evening and pronounced them man and wife. Dick can congratulate himself upon carrying away the Belle of Sleepy Eye. Mr. Smith and wife will remain in the city. Chas. Porth is laved up with rheu matism of the worst kind and it may take sometime before he will be able to be arouad again. Frank Golden, of Essig was up on Monday' attending the funeral of his grandmother, Mrs. Duncan. SPRINGFIELD CORRESPONDEKCE. Judging from the large quantity of wheat and flaxseed hauled to this point and the uncommon joviality of the iarmers- at present, the price of the mentioned cereals must be satisfactory And*cncouraging to the tillers of the soil. '":'v A diphtheria scare prevailed in town several days last week, simply on account of the fact that a young lady suffered from Quinsy and in addi tion she came from New Ultu some lime last summer. Rev. Durbahn, pastor of. the Ger man Methodist church, visited at aru berton several days last week. It is rumored that a lodge of A. O. U. W. will be organized in this city the ooniing week. Superintendent Velikanje and son Milan, "who is teaching in the Skinner's district, were seen on our streets last Saturday. Rev. Father Haas made a flying trip to Sleepy Ey Wednesday. The many friends of Mrs. Knoedel, formerly of New Ulm, will be pained to learn that she is suffering incurably from an internal cancer. .A little girl of Aug. Jaehu has been very seriously ill with pneumonia within the last ten days. The last re ports are that she is a trifle better and hopes are entertained of her recovery. Dr. F. P. James, dentist, made his semi-monthly call, here last Friday. The result of-his work proves him to be an ablejnan in his profession. H. Bendixen, our leading mer chant tarried in Sleepy Eye last Wednes day. Our ice dealers have begun to till their ice houses. The ice is taken from the river and appears to be of a fair quality. Lafayette Locals.. Mr. II. F. Sehrader and father went down to St. Peter last week on business. Miss Augusta Goetsch of New Ulm was visiting at Lafayette last week. Mr. William Dannheini has nearly recovered from the injuries he sus tained while butchering his porkers a short time ago. Miss Emma Glaesemann visited friends in New Ulm last week. Anton Altmann, son of Georg Alt inann, was on the sick list last week Mr. Henry Sehrader was on a busi ness trip to Milford and Essig Station last week. The quarterly meeting held at the M. E. church of Lafayette last Sunday was'well attended by friends from Mil ford, Essig Station and West Newton besides the members of this place, Rev. H. Boetnhen and Rev. F.
