.J !4J flpv- SLEEPY EIE C0RRESP08DEHCE. —Captain Grant Prescott has been rusticating in St. JPaul and Minneapolis for some days taking in the low rates and the ice palace. —Mr. Karl Brauns wiled "with us a few days last week giyin us taffy. Call again Karl. —Oar good old friend Fritz Koehne has been on the sick list for a few days. Glad to say he is convalescing. —There were not enough men in Sleepy Eye Friday for a Corporal's guard when the snow plow made its ap pearance. East of the city everybody turned out to witness the work it did. We think it worked to perfection. It threw all the snow into the dutchman's field. —Rev. Wotsen, who has been hold ing revival meetings in the Baptist chnrch for about three weeks, closed iris series of meetings Thursday even'g and departed for Minneapolis Friday afternoon. —Mrs. Tuos. A. Wilson, from Spring field, staid with us through last week's storm. —Mr. Bletner came very near los ing his life last Friday as the rotary snow plow was going through the last drift just east of town. He tried to jump onto a caboose but gettirg a hold on the iron railings his feet slipped bringing them in front of the wheels. He was dragged in this way for some distance, but the conductor seeing the shape he was in. stopped the train in time to save Mr. B'slife. —Died: Mr. Robert Lent, south of Sleepy Eye. Mr. Lent was here ^about two weeks ago in good health. He went to New Ulm to prove up on some lind, and in going home from here he had to shovel his way there, overwork ing himself, which resulted in his sick ness and death. —The last week was a tough one. When one storm had abated a little an other one was ready to take the place of the first. Our city was filled with travelers and commercial men from one end to the other and hotels had a regular bonanza. —Married: Mr. James Green, of Sioux City, to Miss Eva Greene, of this place by Rev. McNeil Saturday Jan. 21st. Mr. Green will probably remain here over winter, and if he is satisfied with the country he may make Minne sota his home. —Rev. Madsen was at New Ulm through the last storm, and fearing that he would have to stay over Sunday undertook the trip on foot. He says walking was very good and he did not feel as tired as he expected to. —Mr. E. F. Dykman, has gone to New York and Canada, and will be ab sent for some time. —Mrs. M. Zieske and Mr. J.C.Zieske went to Lafayette Monday to pay a visit to Mr. and Mrs. Strassburg. —Miss Emma Kohlhase is very sick and there is some doubt about her re covery. —Mr. H. Meyerding, of New Ulm, wiled in Sleepy Eye a few hours Mon day morning. He was on his way to Morgan to look after his stock farm near that place. —Mr. Thomas Elliott went to see the ice palace. He came back with less in his pocket than he went down with. —The greatest cry of all is what will we do with all the town money. Why: Extend the water main build a fence around Lake park pay some of the old indebtedness. In that way we can get rid of a good deal of money. SPRINGFIELD CORBESPONDEHCE. —Herman Wentz who was taken down last Tuesday with a severe attack of inflamation of the lungs, is reported out of danger. —G. Ottomeier of New Ulm made us an agreeable and protracted visit last week for several days. Borealis Rex compelled him to stay. —Tie masquerade held last Tuesday evening was a complete success in spite of the inclemency of the weather. An other will be held Feb. 13. —Mr. Juni of New Ulm made us a pleasant call Saturday. —Wolf Schmidt and Anton Beilau contemplate building beautiful residenc es next summer, —J. J. Jaehne bought house and lot of Anton Beilau, consideration $680, —August Wangerin bought the store of P. F. Altermatt with the expectation of putting in a stock of Boots and shoes next summer. —It is rumoied that H. Still has rent ed the saloon at present occupied by Mr. Hoil, the former to take possession next spring and continue the same bus iness. —Died, Saturday evening, January 21, Mrs. Knoedel, of this place, after a protracted illness of 2 years. The de-self ceased formerly resided in New Ulmcompetent and, there as "well as here she had a large circle of acquaintances. Funeral was held last Tuesday. —Our late marshal Emerson Cady aged 36 years who has been on bed of illness for several weeks died Thursday evening 3,20 P. M. and was buried last Sunday in the new cemetry. The vil lage council acting as pall bearers car ried the remains to the German Luth ern Church where the funeral sermon was spoken by Rev. M. Chester, singing under the leadership of Mrs. F. M. Baker. Among the very many present were John and Eben Breton his cousins from Jackson, Minn. We are in heart felt sympathy with the family bereaved of so much an esteemed citizen.
