SLEEP! JOB eORRESPOMNCE.
J. C. Zieske was absent from the City
for a week, rusticating in Iowa. John
returned Sunday afternoon and says he
is very much taken in with the country
over "which he traveled, especially
around Spirit Lake. He has never seen
better farm land. Plenty of good fish
ing. He found prohibition not to pro
hibit, as he saw more drunken men in
Iowa than in our own State. 2But such
is life. -rS
Charles Peterson,o'f Springfield, whiled
in the City over Sunday. Charley will
let us know after a while what he comes
down for, at present he is kind of silent
about it,
A special meeting will be beld by the
A. A. K. and Relief Corps next Satur
day afternoon the Sons of Vets are in
vited to take pare in the meeting. This
will be the last meeting held before the
encampment. The commander wishes
every comrade to be on hand and report
oi what has been done and what re
mains to be done to make it pleasant
for the visiting comrades on the 27th of
June.
Conrad Moll, who went to Washing
ton Territory a few weeks ago with
Mr. Schwartz, returned home last week.
Mr. S. was taken sick and so he was
compelled to return with him, not hav
ing the required time to take a good
look at the country. Mr. Moll does Rot
seem to be satisfied with what he has
seen of the country.
Crops of all kind3 are looking nicely.
Corn is a little backward but this hot
weather is helping it along.
Henry Nelsen of "Winnebago City
was in the village one day last week.
Sheriff Schmid was also here on official
business from here he went to St. Paul
and Winnebago City.
Overcoats can be laid aside just now
and apiece of ice in place of it would
go better to keep cool.
Miss Emma Zieske was visiting at

Some machine men seem to take P.
T. Barnum's view that the American
people are bound to be humbugged and
farmers in this country are subjected
and liable to fh.ll into the hands of just
such men. Farm machinery now-a
days is so near perfection that nearly
all kinds of machinery works leason
ably well, yet there is a difference in
the"material £)ut into them as is also
he case in prices with local dealers.
believe in the theory of dividing
the profits with our customers and we
would rather sell a great many goods
at prices, that at the end of the season
would leave hundreds of dollars of the
profits in the pockets of our customers,
than to combine with other machine
men in raising the prices, thereby sell
ing but a little and dividing up the
trade, in order to keep machinery high.
