She reached the age of seventy-nine years. The funeral services were held in the Evangelich church Thursday afternoon by Rev. Gagstetter. The bereaved have the sympathy of their many friends. Mr. Jake Welcome returned from St, Louis, where he has been attending College, last week. Mr. Kennedy of Tracy is down on a visit to his many friends. Mr. K. was one of the first settlers around here. Mrs. T. E. Bowen went to the Twin Cities last Friday. Rev. Gagstetter received a telegram last Thursday, announcing the death of Rev. John Schmidt at Waseca. Rev. Schmidt is well known by a good many of the old settlers here.' At one time he served the Evangelical Congregation at this place. He was taken to his last resting place in Mankato, and burried Sunday 10:30 A. M. He leaves a large family to morn his demise. Mr. G. Brust, who lives east of town and is one of our young and prosperous farmers is making preparations to build himself a nice residence early in the spring. The lumber for the structure is on the ground. Mr. Harry Letford, telegraph opera tor at Tracy, tarried in the city one day last week the guest of Henry Zieske. Miss Ernestine Schuelke, of Meriden, Steel Co., was in the citv last week to make arrangements to start a millinery store. She comes well recommended and has been in that line of business for the past five years. She expects to open her store about March 15th. Dehoff Bros, have purchased the stock and fixtures of C. Salkowske. In ventory is being taken now and in a few days the new firm will take charge. Farmers are netting ready for seed ing. If the weather continues such as we have been choosing within the last week, seeding will begin next week, Co. Att'y. Being questioned concerning the removal of the court-house, he stated that as far as he was interested professionally he was perfectly satisfied to leave the court-house where it is now. Ferdinand Koetner, with several of his intimate friends, went to Courtland last Thursday with the happy antici pation of taking unto himself a dear little wife on the following Friday. Carloads after carloads of goods have been unloaded here within the last few days, for Springfield merchants are making preparations for a good spring trade. Fred Pfaender of New Ulm was in town last Saturday. Oscar Erickson is making prepara tions to build a fine residence on Mar shall St. J. J. Ray will open an insurance and real estate office this coming spring..
