Order of Eastern Star. State Grand Chapter Held Its Annual Convention at Se dalis, July 18-20. Many Delegates from the En tire Jurisdiction Were in Attendance. Mr It Skdalia, Mo., vW 21. The XJrand Chapter of the State cf Missouri and its worthy grand juisdiction Order of the Eastern Star, convened at the Court House in regular Annual session "Wednesday morning with Mrs A Robinson, of Kansas City, Mo,, Grand Royal Matron, presiding. After the regular.., ritualistic opening Mrs Ida M Carter, Royal Matron of Queen City Chapter No 47, this city, welcomed the offi- jrsaad delegates. MrsMagggie Ballewof Liberty, responded in suitable terms. M iny abic ana resses from the executive officers were the lead ing features of the day. One hundred delegates repre C.senting 47 Chapters were enroll ed. These chapters represent a to tal membership of 1,200 in this jurisdiction that includes Mis souri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraka and Minnesota. During the past year the endowment collection amount ed to $739, a pretty good showing since this department has been in operation only two years. Six teen deaths were reported and at the chapter of sorrow, an open scs sion held at 4 pm Friday, a sol mn rite was performed in their honor. G C Kimbrcugh, Grand Royal Patron, conducted the ser vices. In its local chapters the members are paid sick ben fits, burial exoenscs and are looked after in a general way. No .greater agency for helping woman kind is at work in the state than this organization. Queen city chapter will be greatly benefitted by this annual meeting. The election of Mrs Ida M Carter, of 'this chapter as one of the Grand officers was a compliment paid our city that all Negroes living ere appreciate. Friday evening a largg audience witnessed the in cstallation services at Liberty -Park. Our local chanter a d the Knights Templar participated in the ceremonies, While occupy ing the'u respective positions the Grand body presented a most pleasing spectacle. Among the prominent ladies present may be mentioned Mes dames Crosthwait of Kansascity, BJ Carruthers, of St Louis; the Misses Foster of Kansas City and many others of lofty culture and noble aspirations. The following preambles and and resolution were unanimously adopted: Whereas, We the officers and members of the United Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, have been so royally enter tained by Queen City Chapter No 47, and Whereas, The citizens of Se dalia having granted us the use of this imposing structure, in .vhich to hold our session, therefore be it Resolved, lhat we extend a heartv vote ot thanks for their hospitality. Principal J B Cole man and wife of Columbia are among the hard working teachers. He has given two very interesting lectures be fore our literary society. M Misses Alice Holmes and Estel la Martin of Sedalia are greatly missed his week, Each of them have proved that they are excel lent teachers. We miss you, ladies Prof Moten was on the sick list or two or three days and Princi pal Tom Ann Dan Wright was at the head of the Department of Mathematics. It seemed that Wright is right in every place. Editor R L Logan of the Pro fessional World was on the Cam pus shaking hands with the teucli crs, Wednesday, the 18th. Principal G F Perry of Gutl -rie, Oklahoma, is here attending the summer school. He has an even dozen teacheis under his personal supervision in that city. Our teachers arc to rende'r a program tonight for the benefit of the Methodist church. The Summer School Literary Society is having some fine exer cises and each session is well at tended, Principal Tom Ann Dan Wright of Monroe Cily, our pres ident, is a fine executive that is pushing things to the front, The Principals have organized a Principals' Association, which meets every Monday afternoon. Principal Hicks, is president ai.d Principal Johnson is secretary.
