Near-Fatal Automobile AccldenUlear Cuba (From Friday's Daily.) Just after leaving the home of Frank Kiser near Cuba yesterday an auto mobile owned and driven by Albert Renner and occupied by his wife and Mr. and Mrs. R. Fairbanks, ran into a barbed wire throwing Mr. Fairbanks over the back of the machine and se verely shaking him up. The party bad enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner and late in the afternoon start ed to return to Valley City and when leaving- the yard ran Into a wire stretched across the driveway to take the place of the gate. MT. Fairbanks •aw the wire and grabbed it with his hand to carry it over the head of the pasengers, realizing that the machine could not be stopped. In some man ner the wire caught him in the breast throwing him over the heads of the others and thus saving them. His in Juries were not serious although he feels the effect of the shaking up that he received. Alderman News Letter Live Corner of County (From Saturday'* Daily.) Turkeys are being fattened for Christmas. The Thanksgiving dance at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. Weston was well attended and thoroughly enjoyed by those so fortunate as to have been present. So many weddings may Indicate a cold winter. Mr. Kulseth spent Thanksgiving at the John Eggert farm. Howard Ludwig will spend the win ter in California. Henry Ludwig and Henry Kulseth took in the big dance at Valley City Wednesday evening. Gust Dahl and Mary Ludwig spent Thanksgiving with Mr. and Mrs. Stiles. At the meeting of the Music Club which was held at the home of Mrs. Otto Zetterberg Wednesday evening, a splendid program was given and the meeting was of unusual interest. Johnston Bank Changes Hands MARION INSTITUTION PURCHAS ED BY VALLEY CITY BANKERS. During the past weeK the majority initerest in the stock of the Johnston State Bank, of Marion, formerly own ed by Messrs. Johnston of St. Paul, was sold by them to Jas. J. Earlcy, Walter Coop and K. A. Bon'hus of Val ley City, who have already assumed control. The decision to sell is in ac cordance With the plan of the John stons to close out all their interests ai Marlon. At a meeting of the board of directors held at the bank on Thurs day the resignations of the Johnstons were acecpted and the new owners were elected to the board, which now consists of five directors as follows: C. A. Arnes, K. A. Bonhus, Walter Coop, Jas.' J. Barley and Paul G. Sitz. Mr. Barley waft elected president In place of S. B. Johnston. Mr. Barley speaks of the purchase and of their future plans, as follows: "It is true that we have bought the controling interest in the Johnston State Bank after a careful examination of its condition, in which we found ev erything in first class shape. We bought it as an investment and will take our share in the responsibility of Its future management. Messrs Aarnes and Magnuson will continue in their present positions. Under the former management the bank has done well, taking care of its customers in years of short crops as well as in seasons of abundance, and henceforth we shall strive to do better, if possible." Fargo Wants Men On Conspiracy Charge CAPITAL SECURITY OFFICIALS IN DICTED ON CHARGE OF CONSPIRACY. Norfolk, Va., Dec. 1.—Samuel Har ris, president, and J. G. Thalaker, secretary-treasurer of the Capital Se curity company with its home of fices here, was arrested today upon indictments found against flem In Fargo, N. D., charging them with conspiracy to defraud by use of the mails. The defendants gave bail of $2,000 to appear Tuesday before the United States commisisoner. They resisted efforts to have them sent to Fargo. Friends of Mrs. Anna Easton and Mrs. Vlken, both of the city, will re gret to know that they are both con fined to the Platou hospital with ap pendicitis. Grand Forks Club En courage Winter Sports COMMERCIAL CLUB ORGANIZES TO POPULARIZE NORTH DAKO TA IN WINTER MONTHS. Grand Forks, Dec. 1.—Believing that the engagement of winter sports will do much to make North Dakota more popular in winter, the Grand Fork# Commercial Club has taken the initia tive in establishing a curling and skat ing rink in that city. A stock com pany has been formed and a $12,000 rink is being erected. Curling is a winter sport which is brought to this country from Scotland. It is an in tensely interesting and healthful game. It is popular in Canada and wherever tried has been popular in the Northwestern United States. The winters of North Dakota and the long evenings of the winter months need recreational opportunities to make them enjoyable.
