President MoFarland, of the State Normal school left last evening for Devls Lake to attend the meetng of the County Superintendents^ of the state, called by Hon. E. J. SIX NORE SENIORS IN TEACHING POSITIONS Three more members of the senior class at the state Normal school have secured teaching positions since an nouncement "was last made, according to telegrams received here yesterday, saying that contracts were to follow. Fern Foss, of Wibaux, Mont., will niext fall have charge of the kinder garten work in "the schools at her home Floy Cooper, of Casselton, has been elected to teach the primary grades at Northwood. Clara E. Woodworth, of Grafton, will have charge of the upper grades at Northwood. In addition to these elections, three members of this years class will join the Normal school faculty as assist tants, in accordance with the action of the last meeting of the board of state Noraml school trustees 'held at May ville last week. Paula Kittel, of Casselton, will next year assist in the department of for eign languages, teaching German. Florence TlUson. Cooperstown, will became an assistant instructor in the department of domestic science. Alice M. Gilbert, of Casselton, will become assistant in the department of public school music. MOUNT VESUVIUS ACTIVE AGAIN. Rome, Italy, April 24.-Mount Ves suvis on the west coast and Mount Etna on the East coast began erupting simultaniously today. There are vio lent earth tremors and gra-e concern is felt for the inhabitants in that vici nity. There are many Americans with in a short distance of Vesuvius and concern is felt for their safety. FRIDAY, APRIL 24, 1914. The depleted coffers of the students' loan fund at the State Normal school here yesterday received $25, contri buted by a prominent local business man, whose name we are not now at liberty to metlon. The much appre ciated contribution was occasioned by the annual exhibition of Japanese works of art in the art rooms of the Normal school. These exhibitions are given each year in connection with the study of the work of the Japanese in the regu lar art classes conducted' by iMss Mary G. Deem. An exceptionally fine collection is shown this year, consist ing of fancy china-ware, vases,draw ings, prints, watercolor work, paint ings, etc,, besides a magnificent col lection of genuine Japanese wood block prints. A particulary interesting and pleas ing feature.of the exhibit is the lec ture series conducted by Miss De.em on the subject. Several have already heard these lectures this week and the general public is inv'ted to be present each afternoon at 3:00 o'clock. Lee building, which according to plans in the hands of the contractors will be one of the best buildings in the city It will be a hotel of a hundred rooms with steam heat, running water and all modern conveniences. The main street sight where the building is to stand has been something of an eye sore since the old building was burn ed and this improvement is one that will meet with the hearty approval of the citizens generally. SECTION OF NESTER FARM SOLD YESTERDAY FRIDAY, APRIL 24, 1914. Section 1-140-58 was sold yestrday to Wm. Schultze and Wm. Kerncamp. This section is a part of the Nester farm and is a splendid piece of land. The SE of 4-140-58 was also sold to John Frolich, the price being $8,000. There has been a rumor for some time that the Nester farm was to he sold and the work of disposing of it seems to have actually started. Should this farm be disposed of in small tracts it will undoubtedly result in bringing in many new settlers and thus may prove a real benefit to Valley City. Belfat.s Ireland, April 27.—Unionists todpy successfully carried out the greatest gum in running trick in his tory of Ireland, landing 70,000 rifles and distributing them through Ulster. 5,000,000 rounds of ammunition was also landed wi'th 'material available, rifles and ammunition sent from Ham burg, lanedd in three consingments, Larnew, Bargor and Bonaghadie. One hundred automobiles at once began distribution with the assistance of 30, 000 volunteers completely unloading and distribution by 4 o'clock this morn ing without incidnet.
