They all had a fine June until time to go home, when the stonn kept them guessing as to wheth er they could get there. Will Thiel started home, but returned, the storm ieing too bad. SHEYENNE VALLEY Jan. 29.—We had another bad snow storm last Sunday. Oscar Aas was a Daily shopper last Tuesday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Gregerson and aous, Andrew and Sidney, were visit ing with Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Allain last Monday evening. Martin Evenson was a business visi tor in Valley City last Wednesday. Alfred and Henry G. Aas and John F- Henrilcson were visitors at the home of Jens Henrikson last Tuesday after noon. Eld. Kvilvany transacted business in Valley City last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Allain were Tisiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ecter Gregerson last Monday after noon. Andrew C. Nelson»returned home from Bismarck last week after a few days there on business matters. Ole P. Hjelde is on the sick list at this whiting. Alfred Anderson was a visitor at the Ole Stevens home last Thursday. Oscar E. Aas was doing some shop ping at Daily last Friday. 'Mads Rensby arrived from Canada last Tuesday, after four months' work ing there. Alfred Anderson was a business vis itor in Kathryn last Wednesday. Peter Gregerson went to Hobart last Wednesday for a visit with relatives there. John F. Henrikson and sisters, Nina and Marie went to Valley City last Wednesday for a visit and shopping. While they were there Miss Nina was taring her eyes treated by one of the specialists and they returned home last Thursday evening. Alvin Hanson and Paul Torgerson left for Audubon, Minn., last Wednes day for a few days' stay with friends and relatives in that community. Miss Esther Donnely, who has been staying with her brother, Arthur Don aely, left last Wednesday for San Francisco, Cal., where she will spend the remainder of the winter. Sigurd: Sorenson returned yesterday alter a couple of weeks' stay at Valley City. Olaf Halvorson returned yesterday from Adams, after an absence of about onfe week. A number of relatives gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Ols berg Thursday evening, Jan. 18, in, remembrance of Mrs. Olsberg's twen ty-second birthday. A very dainty -lunch was served at 10:30. 'Mrs. Ols- berg was made the happy owner of a leather rocker. The evening was en joyed by playing games, both young and old taking part in them. After spending a very enjoyable evening they all departed for their homes at .2 o'clock. N. Mickelson returned yesterday af ter spending a couple of weeks at the parental home at Minneapolis, and visiting friends and relatives at Wil mar, Minn. Miss Palma Henrikson, who is at tending the Valley City Normal, was operated on for appendicitis at the General hospital Monday. She is get ting along as nicely as can be expect ed. Jacob Arves was a Hastings busi ness visitor between trains today. Knut Berg returned Friday from a week's stay at Fargo. Miss Hanna Halvorson returned Monday from a two weeks' stay at Fargo. L. B. Hanson was a Valley City busi ness caller from Saturday until Mon day. Ole Helland left today for Fargo, where he will stay for about a week. R. Olsberg returned yesterday from St. Paul, where he had been with a car of cattle. Henry Boxrud, of Nome, transacted business in our burg between trains today. John A. Pederson went down to Fargo Tuesday, returning Wednesday. J. P. Runck went to Casselton Tues day to attend to business matters. James Hanson returned to Eastedge Tuesday after spending a few days in our city. K. O. Abrahamsen returned yester day from Valley City, where he has for three weeks on jury duty. Stee returned to Dazey last Saturday evening after spending a short time visiting at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Sad, at Han naford. Rev. M. O. Dybvik was a passenger to Courtenay last Saturday evening where on Sunday he filled his regu lar appointment. Mrs. W. C. Nolte was taken to the Riverside hospital at Valley City Tues day evening, where she will receive medical attention. Her condition is very grave and her many friends here are not very hopeful. We have not heard of her condition since she was taken to the hospital, so cannot re port at this writing as to how she is. Mrs. Ludvig Hareland, of Hanna ford, came down from that place last Saturday evening for a short visit at the home of her sister, Mrs. John A. Carlson. Mrs. A. S. Langer, who has been suffering with an attack of pneumonia, is reported to be somewhat improved. This will be good news to her many Dazey friends. A. O. Tolstad returned home last Saturday from Valley City, where he» had spent a few days on business mat ters. Hans Oppegard who has been spend ing the past few weeks at Valley City as one of the jurors in the distric court that has been in session at that city, returned to Dazey Wednesday, the session having been concluded on Tuesday so far as the jurors are con cerned. The Ladies' Aid of the M. E. church will meet at 3 p. m.. on Feb. 1. at the M. E. parsonage. All members are requested to be present as there is very Important business on hand. Mrs. H. R. Tendick returned from Fargo Wednesday. John Thorson came up from Ender lin on No. 105 Sunday. Chas. Anderson and Frank Johnson were Nome callers Saturday. C. W. Pollock and Mr. Frazier, of Fingal, boarded the branch train for Fargo Friday. iMr. Ingwald, of the Thoreson chain of banks, who resides in Fessenden, was in town Monday. Miss Amelia Crystal enjoyed a visit last week from her father and brother, who reside near Alice. Chas. Meyer, of Enderlin, visited his parents at Ft: Ranson last week and returned to Enderlin Thursday evening. Joe Mann and Earnie Strangler at tended the Nonpartisan meeting at Valley City last week. The former was sent as a delegate. Mr. and Mrs. Aasheim and daugh ter have gone to Lake Alfred, Fla., where they will spend the winter on their grape fruit farm at that place. They left Monday over the Northern Pacific. The M. W. A. held a special meet ing Saturday and decided to give S. S. Shaw a 60-day option on the Wood man hall. We understand that Mr. Shaw is planning on moving and re modeling it into an up-to-date store building. R. L. Roach came down from James town Wednesday evening. Were it not for the fact that this estimable gentleman sells life Insurance instead of fire insurance there are some here who might imagine he was working up business here during his stay. We have been asked to announced that immediately after Sunday school, which is over at 2 o'clock, will be held a meeting of all the ladies who are able to attend and who are will ing to do whatever they can in the way of bettering the community and their surroundings. This meeting will be held in the church next Sunday. We as a community wish to express to the Enderlin fire department our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for their coming to Lucca offering their assistance, as they did last week Thursday, when our entire village was threatened to be entirely wiped out by fire. ThiB is the second time the de partment has kindly ofTered its assist ance and we feel that we surely owe the gentlemen a debt of gratitude. There may come a time when a bucket brigade in Enderlin will be welcome and if that time ever comes our men and boys will surely be there to ren der all help within their power to re ciprocate in a small way the kindness of the Enderlin firemen. We also thank the Soo Line for furnishing the transportation and making it possible for the department to come to our aid. At the dime social held at the church last Saturday evening a num ber of subjects of much interest were discussed, principally the securing of a lyceum course for the community and also the advisability of a parent teachers meeting. It was left to the correspondent to decide and announce through the local news items when and where the first parent-teacher meeting should be. It seems to be the opinion of those spoken to that Friday evening, Feb. 2, at 8 o'clock, would be a convenient time to meet at the school house and organize such a meeting. Personal property taxes for the year 1916 became due December 1, 1916, and will become delinquent March 1, 1917, when a penalty of 5 per cent will be added and interest thereafter at the rate of 1 per cent per month. GRAND PRAIRIE Luverne Ledger: Alfred .Tinquest started school Monday. The first meeting of the Farmers' Club was held in the school house last Friday, only a small crowd attending. New officers were elected as follows: President, Mr. Sconnard vice presi dent, Mr. Wright secretary, Mr. Ward treasurer, J. Burchill. The next meeting will be held Feb. 3. There will be some music and a speak er. Everybody come. Miss Mabel Finstead visited the school last Thursday. The domestic science department have a new four-burner kerosene stove. There will be some fine cooking done now. Johnnie Finstad has been very ill the past week. Hot lunches are now being served at the school house. Services were not held in the school house last Sunday on account of the bad storm. Rev. Backman was to preach. Miss iMcKee visited at the Ward farm over Saturday and Sunday. Mr. Scudder, Mr. Spall and Miss Scadland went to Valley City Friday evening to attend the teachers' meet ing to be held there Saturday. They were unable to return until Monday noon on account of the storm. In their absence Miss McKee acted as superin tendent and put four high school stu dents in charge of the rooms. The Baldwin basket ball team play, ed the Grand Prairie team on the tat ter's floor Saturday evening and went home with a hard won victory. AGRICULTURAL SHORT COURSES County Agent James is planning short courses for Eckelson, Sanborn and Oriska to be held the week of Feb. 5 to 10. Co-operative breeding of live stock, live stock shipping associations, mar ket organizations for meat, selection and testing of seed potatoes, farm loan associations and oUier topics will be discussed. Mr. Peters from the A. C. and Mr. Calnan will assist in the work, be sides several local farmers who are to take part.
