The following letter has been received at this office from County Attorney Mad igan of Redwood county: Editor Review: I have recently been handed your paper of the 3d inst. and was surprised to notice that you had some items published derogatory to me, but after careful perusal believe it was unintentional on your part and beg you to correct the same in your next is sue, as I believe you, being in another county, would not be influenced by any of this county's interests and would on ly like to see justice done. As to the item "Some more of Madi gan's work" the affidavit .for change of venue is on file in your county and you will notice that not one of the affidavits in the city of Redwood Falls were sub scribed and sworn to before rne, but the same were subscribed and sworn to be fore N. V. R. Hunter, and I do not be lieve there is a man in either Redwood or Brown County who will question his integrity. Each of the parties who swore to it swear that they had read the same before swearing thereto. I could not help it if some of the parties did not read the affidavit before swearing to it, as I was not present when they swore to to it. The thirty-five persons who swore to the affidavit from this city subscribed and swore to the same in one half day, while the state took two days with a law yer, the chairman of the Board of county commissioners, the Clerk of court and the county auditor, trying to pull them off, and they got but very tew. In fact The Best Shoes for the Least Money any a?** €K S^feF i/dSi A' •"&," t&swS>.? they did not dare to oppose the motion or introduce their affidavit, as I had in the short space of two hours seen nearly all of the persons to whom they had misrepresented the real meaning of the affidavit to get them to subscribe to a much, stronger affidavit than the origin al. So the prosecution comes in and grace fully submits to the change and offers to consent to have the change to Brown Co. I always had a good opinion of the peo ple of Brown County, taking them to be broad-guaged and fair-minded and not governed by spite t.r prejudice and consented. I have had no reason to change my mind since. A GEEAT OFFER. As to your article leferring to inform ation filed in the Supreme court by Com missioner Pease, it shows weakness on the part of the state for if it had a good case against me, a conviction would dis bar me without any other or further pro ceedings then why this useless proceed ing? I have nothing to say for or against any person or persons. All I ask is a fair and impartial jury without any monkeying or put up jobs. Certainly the loss of my profession should be a very severe punishment, but the loss of liberty much worse. I ask therefore from newspapers and people in general, square dealing. When I come to go be fore the? Supreme Court I expect that the prosecution will use everything fair and unfair, to gain their point. As I cannot help it, I submit. Please put me right where you have unwittingly wrong ed me. Having been informed that I had resigned and that the state had dropped the prosecution, of course you supposed that no wrong would be done or you would not havj published what you did. M. M.
