Yankee Robinson Made the Present Ringling Show. The Rlogling Bros., in an inter view in New York in April of this year, made the statement that they owed their sucess to the greatest of all showmen, Yankee Robinson. For two seasons the Ringling show endea vored to pilot their show on the sea of circusdom. But met with disaster each time and wended their way back to Baraboo. Finally Yankee Robinson & Rinaling Bros. Show made a sucess. This continued for some time, finally Yankee Robinson and the Ringling separated. Today these two mam moth shows continue to rule the world of circusdom, and each one is credited with having the best circus perfor mance and menagerie carried with tented organizations. Both shows are still on friendly terms, each one contented with the territory alloted them each season. The only possible I fricton between the two big shows is during the winter months when some big foreign act is desired by each show The Yankee Robinson Shows has the Ringhngs tested in this regard nawng formed an alliance with the jjreat vaudeville interests of the coun try and having the only high-class audeville house operated on the big circuit. However, the early friendship of these two shows is so strong that Ringhngs are loaned many features not desired by the Yankee Robinson Shows for instance, the Patty troupe now the big feature of the Ringling show, was exhibited by the present management of the Yankee Robinson shows two seasons prior to the Ring ling engagement. Both shows are better equipped than ever this season. There is no truth in the report that both shows have combined for the season. Minstrel Show. "One swallow does not make a sum mer'" neither does one comedian make a minstrel show. Managers of the old school used to content that one real actor and fifteen or sixteen '"sticks" and a band of ten pieces was sufficient for a minstrel show, and that the public would accept them. History proves the truth of their contention, for the^public did accept such arganizations whethei or not the public were satisfied is a ques tion open to argument. But there have been vast changes in the last few years. The day of the one-man show la over. The public de mand a company of uniform excellence. Mistakes are to the wise man but stepping stones to success. The man agement of Richards & Pringle's Fa mous Georgia Minstrels were the first to realize that if minstrelsy was to thrive and flourish radical and impor tant changes were necessary. Such changes called for the outlay of a con siderable fortune, but time and results have testified to the truth of their con viction. This company stands today the acknowledged leader in this branch of the amusement business, and no well-informed student of the stage will challenge this statement. They travel in their own palace cars and number 40 people. Twelve come dians of real reputation vie with each other in the fun makiag. There are 20 trained singers, a double sextette of nimble dancers, seven big vaudeville acts and a band of 25 pieces, that is the best ever The date of this company's appear ance at the Turner Theatre is Sunday Evening May 28 a brilliant Street pa rade will be given at 3 o'clock in the afternoon and an open-air concert in front of the Dakota House at 9:30 in the evening. State St. Some Interesting Facts about Popular Song-Writers. The sales of a really popular song run up into the thousands, and the lucky authors revel temporarily in the wealth it brings them. Jerome H. RemickJk Co. have had as many as six of these songs selling at one time. This is a remarkable record, but to have one writer furnish four of them seems almost a miracle. Percy Wen rich, oje of our youngest song writers has again demonstrated his ability to strike the popular fancy by his latest, "WE'VE KEPT THE GOLDEN RULE Founded, as it is, upon the oldest and greatest principle of moral philo sophy, the lyric goes as straight to the hearts of the music- loving multi tude as does the tuneful melody. A sentiment similar to that of "OLD GRAY BONNET" pervades this song and voung and old will benefit by its moral. When songs like "WE'VE KEPT THE GOLDEN RULE," become po pular, the world is getting better. Chorus When we were playmates together, In all sorts of weather, I would whistle for you as we trot along to school. Through the green fields we'd ramble, And watch the lambs at gambol, And we've always kept the Golden Rule. Why so many songs and poems have been written about dreams is a question that has never been definitely settled, stilJ, every new song on the subject that has literary merit and a pleasing melody meets with public ap proval. '.THE VALE OF DREAMS," a new song by Chas. E. Baer and Johann C. Schmid, is at present very popular in New York and Boston. In fact it was in Boston that it first attained popularity, by its rendition at a Boston Conservatory concert. A young contralto made her debut and instantly became famous by her rendition of "THE VALE OF DREAMS." It is really a high-class ballad, and far above the average po pular song. The publishers, Jerome H. Remick & Co., have of late years devoted considerable money and energy in trying to raise the standard of popular songs, and "THE GAR den of Roses," by the same compo sers, also a high-class ballad, has actually outsold any of the popular songs in their catalogue. Musical taste is improving and while the people still love the rollick ing songs of the vaudeville stage, they welcome the better class of songs in their homes. The first part of "THE VALE OF DREAMS" opens in a minor key, leading up to the refrain in major. Mr. Bert Sheridan, of the celebrated Rolfonians, is singing this song nightly to big applause. Chorus. Meet me in the vale of dreams, by the summer sea There love's star forever gleams, dear Gleams for you and gleams for me. There our hearts will find repose, 'Neath the moon's fair beams. Meet me there beside the rose, In the vale of dreams. 2,000 MEALS A DAY Enormous Task to Feed People Yankee Robinson Shows. One of the interesting sights of circus day will be "to observe the working of the commissary depart ment of the Yankee Robinson Shows. This department is under the supervi sion of Mr. Daxis, who has the en ormous task of getting ready over 2, 000 meals a day for the employees of the show. At breakfast, dicmr and supper he* feeds 65) people. Seven oooks prepare each meal and twenty five flunkies, or waiters, serve the meals to the circus employees. Ov er 1,400 pounds of meat are shipped from the packers daily and 700 loaves of bread are consumed daily with the show. Breakfast is ready for the canvas men, hostlers and working people forty-five minutes after the cook house wagons are placed on the lot. Break fast is over at nine o'clock in the morning, dinner is served at eleven thirty and supper at five p. m. After supper the wagons are loaded and taken to the cars where they leave on the first train at eleven p. m. To feed properly the employees of a large show is considered one of the wonders of the age and it is well worth the time of the visitor of the show to go the dining tent and observe how it is accomplished. An Appeal to Mr. Speeder. A timely appeal to the reckless automobile driver is published in the Stanley (N.D.) Sun. The article is published below as it readily applies to local conditions also. We quote:" "Say, Mr. Auto Speeder, back up. If you don't have any regards for the city ordinance, have a thought for that flaxen haired girl or boy that be longs to your neighbor. If you still persist in indulging your present ap petite for speed in the city limits, some day vou'll awake from your lethargy and find that your cruel machine has stamped out the life of your neighbor's child and blighted she home that can never be reconciled to the loss of that sweet hallo of child' hood. Perhaps you have a child of your own? Yes. Well, how would you feel if you got a hurry-up mes sage to come home, and when you get there you find your wife in tears, the calm surgeon bending over a colorless heap of bleeding clay that was once the pride of its dad's heart. You wait perhaps for days and weeks for the sad, sweet tremulo of that little pulse to come back to normal and then you wonder why people thick so little of a human life. For the sake of yotir own wife and child, Mr. Bubbler, go slow. The ordinance says you must go slow, but we do not wish to invoke the or dinance. We appeal to your own manhood and the love of the home that every manly man is ready to re cognise. GRAIN AND PROVISION PRICES Minneapolis Wheat.
