Chaa., or originally Carl Wagner, born June 1, 1830, in Calw, Wur temberg, on the eastern slopes of the Black Forest, died early Wednesday morning at his home on North Ger man street at the advanced age of 81 years. He was the son of a tanner, and after passing through the schools of his town, be rather re luctantly took up this trade. His mother died early, and most of his youth he spent in the house of his grandparents. The Revolution of 1848 created in him, as in so many others, a longing for a larger free* dom, and early in 1849 he left for the United States. Here he abandoned his trade and took up that of a chair maker and furniture man, which line of work he pursued until his retirement from business in 1893. After a brief period at Buffalo he emigrated to Cleveland where in 1853 he married Christine Brandstaetter. After the birth of his first child Emma the family removed to Louisville G. A.
