CLARK I S THE NEW HIGH SCHOOL" PRINCIPAL One Instructor Also Elected by Local Board. Four Vacancies Still Existing. The Board of Education of New Ulm Independent School District No. 1 is experiencing considerable disap pointment in securing instructors to fill the vacancies existing in the local high school. Following the request of Prof. Ronald V. Powers for a re lease, after having been elected as the new high school principal to succeed Prof. Brigham, resigned, which re quest was granted, the board members met in special session early last week and elected Prof. Arthur E. Erfckson, who was employed at Granite Falls the past school year, to fill this position, but in the meantime, Mr. Erickson had accepted another contract. Wednes day evening the board met again and this time was successful in finally securing a principal in the person 01 Prof. A. C. Clark, who for the past two years has been an instructor in the Mankato high school. He comes highly recommended. Miss Mary Beernink will succeed Miss Ann Welch as teacher of the in termediate department in the Emerson building, next year, the latter having accepted a position as instructor in the junior high school here for the coming term. Miss Gertrude S. Smith, chosen by the board to succeed Miss Minerva Kellogg as teacher in the home econom ics department, notified Superintend ent Arnold Gloor that she had ac cepted a position as instructor in the Stillwater schools. Another teacher will have to be elected to take her place here. Three other vacancies still exist in the teaching personnel of the local public schools. Miss Myrtle Frederick son was granted a release lrom her contract renewal at her request. Miss Loucks will not return and an in structor for the special class that is to be organized at the beginning of next term will also have to be secured. At the special board meeting, Wed nesday evening, Superintendent Gloor was granted a seven weeks* leave of absence, commencing- July 1, to enable hint to take up post-graduate work at Columbia University^ New York City. Clerk John Heme and Treasurer H. F. Raabe were instructed to arrange for a short loan of $10,000, pending the receipt of the district's portion of the June settlement, for the purpose of providing the necessary funds with which ta pay the teachers' salaries at the close of the school year, last Friday.
