A baby girl arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Schneider in Sigel township last Friday. Emil Netzke of Morgan had his tonsils removed at the Union Hospi tal on Thursday morning. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Hartwick and sons of Lucan visited with Luella and Myrtle Hartwick one day the past week. Henry Hamann and family of Fair fax were visitors at the William Thiede home on North Minnesota street last Sunday. Dorothy Mayer of St. Cloud spent the past week visiting with her friends Misses Marion Reinecke and \erna Dahl. Mrs. A. Metzke and daughter, Ina and Mrs. Paul Eisenbacher of Mor gan were Thursday visitors at the home of Mrs. Karl Koch. Mrs. Maria Hummel of Minneapo lis has been visiting for several days with local relatives and friends. She returned home on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Emil Hamann left on Thursday for Williston, N. D., where they will visit with the former's broth er, William Hamann and family. Franklin Brust returned on Thurs day night from Menominee, Wiscon sin, where he has been attending Stout Institute. He will spend his summer vacation in New Ulm. Arnold Wilbrecht, instructor at the Lutheran parochial school at Stevensville, Michigan, is visiting at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Wilbrecht of this city. Mrs. H. J. Moll and daughters Lil lian and Adeline went to Sanborn on Sunday where they will spend the summer months on the farm which is managed by their son, James Moll. Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Larson and fam ily of St. Paul spent several days of the past week visiting at the home of relatives in this city. Mr. Larson is superintendent of the Blekre tire plant in the Capitol city. E C. Fenske of St. Paul spent the past Sunday as the guest of his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Fenske of this city. He was accompanied here by Walter Olsen, who visited with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Olsen during the day. Mr. and Mrs. Adam Epper return ed on Sunday from Nicollet where they visited for several days at the Henry Epper home. Mrs. Charles Lindemann visited on Tuesday at Winthrop with Mrs. George Scheman. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mueller spent Sunday visiting at the C. A. Johnson home in St. Peter. Prof. A. C. Clark, principal of the local high school, expects to attend Columbia University the coming year. Arthur Nelson of Winthrop under went an operation at the Union Hos pital Tuesday and is getting along very nicely. 4 Mrs. F. A. Gilbert of Boone, Iowa, is the guest of her mother, Mrs. F. A. Schnobrich on South Minnesota street this week. Mr. and Mrs. William Thiede left the latter part of the week for Monte video where they expect to visit for several weeks at the home of relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. John Bittner and Mrs. Robert Bittner of Lamberton visited with the Misses Luella and Myrtle Hartwick at the Union Hos pital on Friday. Haydn Hofmeister of St. Paul, ac companied by Miss Lucetta Jasper, visited over the week-end at the home of his parents, Capt. and Mrs. Jos. Hofmeister, on North Franklin street. Miss Antonette Marten spent the week-end with her mother in this city and also attended the commencement exercises at Turner Hall. Htr sisttrf Miss Laura Marten, was a member of the senior graduating class. Miss Ellen Hummel came home from Morgan on Friday to spend her summer vacation with her parents here. Her school closed*op that day. Miss Hummel will return to Morgan when school commences in the fall. WOMEN Mrs. Theodore Weyhe of Minnea polis spent several days last week in New Ulm. On Monday Mrs. Weyhe, accompanied by Mrs. Jacob Kloss ner and William Julius, Jr. went to Tracy to spend the day with Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Cushing. Louis Buenger spent several dayB of the past week with relatives in New Ulm. He came here from his home in St. Paul on Decoration Day. Mr. Buenger's son Howard returned rer cently from three and one half years' service in the U. S. Navy. Emil Bethke and sister, Miss Ida, of Minneapolis spent several (lays of the past week at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. E: H. Bethke. They went to Milwaukee, Wisconsin by car from here to visit with their brother, Otto Bethke and family. Mrs. Louis Fritsche of Minneapolis and her daughter, Mrs. A. 0. While here, Mrs. Frit sche and daughter were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Klossner. Miss Mildred Green of Minneapolis is the guest of her friend Miss Aimee Krook this week. The- Krook family motored to Mankato to meet her on Friday evening'. ,'*- The Richard Schwartz family who live in the Parkview on South German street are making a trip of several weeks thru Kansas and Colorado. The family came from that section* before settling in Minnesota. ., The Harry Bingham and Elmer Backer families and Miss Anne Mueller accompanied by Johnny O'Shea, Otto Deppe, Denny Oates, and J. L. Sul livan spent Thurdsay out at Lake Jefferson. Albert Held, Louis Koehler and Carl Hummel motored to Minneapolis on Friday to surprise their friend Herbert Buschers on his birthday. Herbert is attending the Minnesota state univer sity. The boys returned home on Sun day evening. Miss Louise Peterson of Forest City, Iowa who has been the guest of Mrs. Henry Held for the past few days, left on Monday for her home. Miss Peter son is well-known in New Ulm as she was the instructor in music at the local high school during the years of 1916-17. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lieder and Mr. and Mrs. John Haenze were guests at the Otto E. Lieder home in Morgan on Sunday. The Otto Lieder family will remove to Ladysmith, Wis., June 12, and a family gathering was held at Morgan before their de parture. Rev. Paul Gedicke of \esta has been extended a call to take over the Lutheran congregations of Essig and Brighton that have been in charge of Prof. A. A. Ackermann. If he does accept the call it is quite probable that Rev. Gedicke will remove to New Ulm. William P. Brandish of Wabasso died at the Loretto Hospital last Tuesday evening of chronic nephritis. The deceased had been ailing for the past two years and for the past month has been receiving treatment at the hospital. The remains were shipped to St. Paul where burial was made on Wednesday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hoffmann motored here from St. Paul to attend the commencement exercises of the graduation class of the high school of which their niece, Gertrude Acker mann, ^ras a member. On their re turn home on Sunday they were ac companied by Mrs. John Hoffmann who will visit with her son at St. Paul for several weeks. .4- School District, "No. 31 in Brighton" township is calling for bids for the construction of a new school building. The modern frame structure will con tain a room large enough to seat forty pupils, two cloak rooms, a library and indoor toilets. There will be a full basement to be used for community meetings and a fuel and furnace room. The estimated cost of the building is $7000. Mr. and Mrs. Wendt have lived in New Ulm for the past twenty years, first having charge of the Grand Hotel and after that Mr. Wendt con ducted a blacksmith shop. They made for themselves a wide circle of friends who greatly regret their de parture. Mr. Wendt will be associ ated with his son-in-law, H. G. Mrs. Rosa Franta and son Joseph, accompanied by Mrs. Carl Mander delf and Miss Adelaide Foster motored to Minneapolis on Monday, to visit with relatives and friends, returning again the next day/ Miss Dorothy Spreng returned on Friday to her home in St. Paul after a pleasant week's stay at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Schneider on North Minnesota street. Miss Spreng and Mrs. Schneider are cousins. Miss Ruth Reim arrived here from Kirksville, Mo., the latter part of the past week to spend her summer vaca tion with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Reim. She attended the Ameri can School of Osteopathy during the past year. Announcements have been received by friends in this city of the arrival of a baby girl at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur J. Rulon at Jamestown, N. D. Mrs. Rulon will be remem bered as Miss Therese Bigot, formerly of this city. ", *jMr. and Mrs. Theodore Mueller and family and Mrs. J. E. Andresch, all of Minneapolis, spent Saturday and Sunday at the N. E. Nelson home on South German street: Mr. Muel ler is a brother of Mrs. Nelson and Mrs. Andresch is a cousin. On Saturday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hoffmann of St. Paul, accompanied by Mrs. A. A. Acker mann and mother, Mrs,. John Hoff mann, motored to Mankato where they spent the afternoon looking af ter business matters. .0 Miss Susie Schneider and Otto Gutzke, both of Lafayette, were mar ried at the local Holy Trmity Catholic church by Rev. Fr. Schlinkert last Thursday evening. Th6y were at tended by Miss Angeline Gobliersch and Joseph Schneider, a brother of the bride. Mrs. Augusta Karstad of this city and Christ Jahncke of Oelwein, Iowa were married at the courthouse by Judge of Probate, William B. Mather on Thursday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Jahncke left the same afternoon for Oelwein, where they will make their home. Prof. A. Ackermann preached his farewell sermon at Essig on Sunday morning and after the services the whole congregation went to the John" Gareis home where a farewell picnic was*given for Prof, and Mrs. Acker mann. About one hundred-fifty were present and a social afternoon was spent which was followed by supper at five o'clock. As a remem brance, Mr. and Mrs. Ackermann were presented with a beautiful gift. Last Sunday, the school picnic of District 39 Sigel township was held in the B. Hillesheim grove With a bout 400 present. Arndt Bros, fur nished the music, and there were all kinds of sports, races,5 etc. At 1:30 a parade was given. HoUis Ladd head ed and amused the crowd by dancing a jig on a platform built on a wagon. Otto Engel drove an old time two wheeled cart. Peter Hartman, the assistant of Barney Hillesheim, took the part of the school nurse and had some time trying to keep a big baby doll quiet. At noon a dinner was served.' Miss Olivia Henle was the teacher of this djstrict, and she to gether with her assistants planned a most enjoyable time for all. Mrs. A. J. \ogel returned on Mon day from Minneapolis where she hid gone to visit with her daughter, Miss Marguerite, who is attending the North western Conservatory of Music, -Art and|fixpression. On Thursday evening thafr institute presented Miss Margue rite! in the "Servant in the House" .byfehas. Rann Kennedy. She is a pupil of Luela Rose Bender. On Fri day evening she took part in the pro duction of "The MoppersV which was given by the Women's Co-operative Alliance at the Schubert Theatre.
